So he's a she? Glad that's been clarified. Thx. He/she/their was getting just a bit too tedious for my liking.
No answer huh? Can't say I'm too surprised.
It is even sadder to think of all the millions who are deceived by this.
Don't forget, JW's are but one of many sects/cults. Unlike all the others, tho, hers is the only true religion - a claim of exclusivity that immediately betrays the trademark of the cultist. Did you see her initial reply to refreshed at the head of this thread? Anybody reading it could be forgiven for thinking that the debate was over at the first hurdle. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth, and her triumphalism was just so much bluster and self-aggrandizement. All her 'unanswerable' questions were predicated on the unproven assumption that the JW denial of Jesus' deity was a done deal, and that nothing 'survives' physical death. Throw in a few dubious 'proofs' (mostly OT) that ignore the overwhelming testimony of Scripture, and presto chango, case closed. She wishes.
I have rarely seen so many non-sequiturs and erroneous assumptions strung together in such a short space, and refreshed did well to refrain from giving her a detailed rebuttal. In any event it would have made next to no difference to the outcome. She is presently too set in her ways to even contemplate the possibility that she might be wrong. But neither do I believe she exited the debate totally unsacthed either, despite her bravado about being even more convinced that she is on the right track thanks to my posts.
Yes, I think you are bang on the money about her surprise at the extent of our knowledge of JW theology, and her probable assumption (strongly hinted at in some of her posts) that we must therefore have all been 'apostates' from JWism at one time or another. How else could we be so well-informed?
She has so much zeal
Remember a certain Saul of Tarsus? He had zeal too. Bucket loads of the stuff, and then some. It took a bolt from heaven to sort him out. What do you think was the result of that 'transmogrification'? Here's a clue or three, highlighted for your convenience:
2Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh.3 For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh—4 though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more:5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law,blameless.7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Have you ever thought just a little more deeply about the implications of what Paul is saying here? I'm gonna leave that hanging for you to think about, but here are some more clues for you to consider. Read Mt. 23 (yep, the whole chapter) and Acts 7:51-57.
Anyway, bottom line - if He can do it for Paul, God can do the same with our JW friend. For example, there is no way of knowing if God has planted just enough seed of doubt in her mind to encourage her to investigate further. It certainly won't hurt to pray for her, and I encourage all contributors to this thread to do just that.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe she claimed at one point that I am a servant of Satan. So if you'll excuse me, I need to break off here to attend to these two lumps that have suddenly sprouted from my forehead.
