I just got back from a 2 day hiking trip in Ithaca, NY and wanted to let others know how I did who might be worried about energy and muscle mass after oj fasting and the fruit diet.
I had plenty of energy to hike through a 1 mile gorge and swim for most of Monday, but became extremely fatigued after getting my period, unfortunately. I took 2 tbls. of organic blackstrap molasses and this helped me right away. I drank herbal tea in the morning and 2 glasses of fresh oj on the ride. Did my hike, ate some strawberries and 2 ounces of raw cashes, almonds, and pumpkin seeds. For dinner after taking my molasses, I had a tbls. of maple syrup with a banana, 2 pineapple slices and for some extra energy I had 1 avacodo guacamole with garlic, cilantro, and lemon, on a few pieces of romaine lettuce. I was already full from the fruit, but thought I could use the extra energy.
The next day, I hiked 5 miles through a beautiful glen, went swimming at the bottom of a gorge and then hiked another 5 miles. The hikes were basically uphill and then downhill on the way back. I had tea in the morning, did my first hike, and ate 1/4 of a pineapple and an apple before the next one. After my day of hiking for dinner I had 1/2 an orange, some blackberries, and 3 oz. of the nuts, and felt as if I overate.
Not once was I fatigued, with the exception of me getting my cycle on Monday. Not once did I feel like I was going to pass out on the hikes or did I become dizzy. My muscles do not even ache the slightest. I'm not saying I felt like superwoman with massive strength and endurance, because it was pretty tough for me and the person I was with, but I got through it just fine, and slept like a baby last night!
In case anyone was wondering, I wait 1/2 hour during my meals, before mixing any different foods together, except the nuts which I mixed together :).
