I'm assuming that your bone marrow biopsy is being suggested and done by a hematologist/oncologist. Right? (Actually it's a pain in the butt, had one done two weeks ago.) It's worth the trouble and in fact may still not give you a complete diagnosis - mine didn't, had to have more blood tests which did determine that I have multiple myeloma - blood cancer. Because the only "symptom" I have is a very high platelet count and no other symptoms I will not receive treatment for multiple myeloma. Just more tests every few months. If it does require treatment have been told by two doctors that there have been significant advances in dealing with it during the past five years. They can't reverse it, but they can slow it down significantly and many people have lived good lives for a number of years after first diagnosis. That's my intention.
Who cares if you're old? It's how you feel that counts and when you have an opportunity to feel better why not go for it? Will be 80 in a couple of days and with what many on the list would consider "significant" medical conditions I feel great without medications and enjoy life more than ever and so can anyone else at any age.
