Can you please tell me if the following herbs kill good intestinal flora. Raw garlic,
There is a debate over whether or not garlic kills the flora or not. Some people claim that yes it does while others claim that the FOS in garlic stimulates the growth of the flora.
wormwood, black walnut, cloves,
These are not a big issue since most of the "toxic" principles are absorbed long before they can reach the colon. So there may some minor killing of the flora, but nothing significant.
Not a very good antiseptic. More of an irritant to the intestines, which is why it can promote bowel movements.
No, not a problem.
Elecampane is rich in polysaccharides like inulin that feed the flora.
Not a problem.
Quassia can kill the flora since the primary antiseptic in quassia are phenols that are not going to be be absorbed.
and cat's claw.
Cat's claw will have some adverse effect on the flora. I tend to avoid cat's claw anyway due to the high oxalic acid content.
I know you have said to stay away from goldenseal and barberry.
I have been killing parasites for over a year. I just started taking sauerkraut and homemade kefir to try and restore balance of the good bacteria.
Should I just stop the parasite killing herbs and just focus on probiotic foods?
I recommend sticking primarily to the elecampane, which does both. Green papaya or papaya seeds and raw pumpkin seeds are also good, safe choices.
