Hi! I'm new here. My 2.5yo daughter and I have been fighting Giardia for over a year. I suspect we contracted it at the local swimming pool. I first realized it was likely to be Giardia when I did a GIS for "sulfur burps". We fit the symptoms nearly 100%. I had a stool sample tested last spring but it came back negative. I understand there is a high rate of false negatives for Giardia.
We digest only half of the food we eat. The rest comes out not much different than it goes in. My 2.5yo is in the 10th percentile despite the fact that she eats more than her 4yo brother who is in the 70th percentile. We've tried Bentonite clay, grapefruit seed extract, and goldenseal. Last summer our symptoms went away. (I attribute the recovery to increased sunlight/vit. D and a diet high in fresh herbs such as oregano.) However, within the past six months our symptoms have worsened and now I suspect I am fighting Candida in addition to Giardia. I plan to try diatomaceous earth and blackwalnut next.
Is the anti-candida diet the best option for those suffering from parasite infestation? Has anyone here had any luck with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet or GAPS? Are there certain foods that help a person fight Giardia?
