My wife went in for her regular six month cleaning last week. When she got home she told me her dentist said she's going to need surgery on her gums. I'm not sure whether it's Gingivitis or something else. All my wife said was her gums are receding.
I just got the estimate and the procedure is called Soft Tissue Allograft. He wants to do this on 11 teeth at a total cost of $7,886!! I'm trying to figure out if I'm being ripped off because she's been going to the dentist every six months for years and her teeth are almost perfect. The dentest didn't say anything about her gums six months ago!
Also, her dentist six months ago sold his practice to this new guy. So this is the 1st time this dentist has seen her.
I'm absolutely going to get a 2nd opinion from a biological dentist.
In the mean time, what steps can my wife take to get her gums back to normal?
