This is absolutely 100 percent wrong.
Like equals like. Human beings must eat animal protein (flesh) in order to maintain muscle mass and lots of other important parts of the body.
Fruits and veggies, while containing many healthy substances can not replace animal protein in the diet.
I've known several vegans and vegetarians in my life and they are all extremely unhealthy. Vitamin B12 deficiencies, Vitamin D deficiency, not near enough fat in the diet...that's just the tip of the iceberg. Zero muscle mass, zero energy and severe mood disturbances.
Humans beings are part of the food chain. There is no escaping this fact. We just happen to be really high up there.
We should respect our "prey" and treat them with dignity while alive, and we should not kill them in a torturous way. However when I'm faced with the decision between saving the animal because I feel sorry for it, or saving my own life by killing and consuming this animal, my instincts take over and I eat that animal.
It's a fact of life. Like it or not.
