Interstitial cystitis or Bladder pain syndrome (commonly abbreviated to “BPS/IC”) is a chronic, severely debilitating disease of the urinary bladder. Of unknown cause, it is characterised by: pain associated with the bladder, pain associated with urination (dysuria), urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), urgency, and/or pressure in the bladder and/or pelvis.

All the above symptoms can be related to overactive bladder. There are some home remedies mentioned in the article for the same in Belmarra Health. Go thorugh it is really helpful.
I been having issues for over a year now and no help from the 6 trips to hospitals, doctors visits and naturalist .. i had given up been then my symptems lately have gotten worse and everytime i have a bowl movement these strange things are all in my poop ... I also have pelvic pain when trying to use restroom . i am at me end i cant take this anymore.. no insurance now and no doctor would help anyway not even look at these ,, i passed these this morning :(***
I have had Interstitial Cystitis for almost 3 years now, and have done a tremendous amount of research on possible causes and treatments, and tried many natural treatments, but I am trying to avoid drug use at all costs.
I have posted on IC in the past:
My latest topic of research is on NSAIDS and their ability to block enzymes which allow our body to produce prostaglandins that make up the bladder and gastrointestinal lining. (Therefore may act as a cause of Bladder Lining AND gastrointestinal lining defects (IBS).
IBS is actually from a lack of intestinal flora. Prostaglandins play a number of roles in the body including producing the stomach's protective lining and preventing depression. NSAID have a long list of side effects because they do inhibit prostaglandins. This include heart attack, stroke, liver failure, kidney failure, aseptic meningitis, loss of vision, tinnitus, internal bleeding, peptic ulcer, etc. And contrary to popular belief many of these side effects do not require long term use or overdose. Side effects such as heart attack, stoke, liver and kidney failure can all occur with a single recommended dose. The FDA estimates there are over 16,000 deaths a year from the use of NSAIDs, but these do not include the deaths from these drugs but attributed incorrectly to other causes. This also does not include the massive number of injuries from these drugs. These drugs are very dangerous and should be avoided whenever possible.
I think that this could be VERY possible as a cause of my IC and I am shocked that I didn't learn about this earlier. I went through a period where I used Ibprofen and Excederin often for headaches, and bladder infection pain. It is really painful to know that I took these things often and now I may be paying the price. I have read in another forum about a women with IC who feels that she has been cured by a drug called Cytotek, which I believe acts to upregulate the COX enzymes which produce prostaglandins (which NSAIDs destroy). I am hoping to find some natural alternatives that do something similar? I realize this may not be possible, and therefore would be willing to try the drug Cytotek, but I imagine finding a doctor willing to prescribe it will be extremely difficult. If anyone has any information regarding this topic, or suggestions, please let me know!!!
Steep about one ortwo teaspoons full of blue vervain and same amount of lemon balm in a cup of water for 15 minutes.
One thing people need to be aware of is that lemon balm suppresses thyroid function. This along with bugle weed are the two primary herbs used to treat hyperthyoidism for this reason. So anyone with hypothyroidism, or even suspected hypothyroidism should avoid this herb.
