I've dealt with Bartholin Cysts for years now. I only get them on one side, the left side. It is very easy for me to relieve them and I hope this will work for you too if you get Bartholin Cysts.
Just use your fingers to locate the "grape-like" cyst.
(You can lay down or sit on the toilet to do this. Perhaps taking one of those sitz baths before hand will help too, but I have never had to do that part.)
Take one or more fingers and press on the "grape-like" ball till it's holding still and secure, then continue to slowly press a bit harder, keeping constant pressure on it.
Then, increase your pressure on it till you feel this little teeny tiny sting inside your labia (you have success when you feel that!)........and then suddenly all of this clear mucousy liquid will come pouring out (it is the same stuff that you see when you have sex and your body lubricates itself when you get wet), but keep your pressure on the "grape" and walk your fingers over it to make sure you have gotten all of the liquid out. FYI....Sorry to be graphic, just want to help anyone out there with this issue.....but it is so easy to press on your Bartholin cyst to release the liquid inside, even my boyfriend has learned how to press on it and the extra lubrication that comes out is helpful for sex. Not trying to gross anyone out, just saying how easy, helpful and useful this remedy is!!!
If you still feel a little bump in there afterwards, do another round of the stabilizing with the fingers and then put the pressure on. You may feel like there is still a tiny (about the size of a pea) bump after you release the liquid, but I find that sized one can usually go away on it's own after I do this at home remedy.
This technique works great for me for several years, Hope this can help someone else out there! Good luck!
PS, I never had any type of infection that had strange foul odor, nor any type of strangely colored or bloody secrection. If you do have anything remotely different than clear odorless liquid... then you REALLY need to see your doctor.

Thanks for this post. I got my first cyst just a few months ago, and did this (before reading) and it's went down from a marble size to about a pea size. No pain unless I press on it, and the discharge was just as you said - the normal mucosal liquid. I've been trying to find someone who has done this without severe consequences, and that's how I found your post. Thanks again. It really does work (if it isn't already infected - and mines wasnt) :D
One week ago today my Bartholin's cyst flared up for the first time. The following day I went to the gyno to have it checked out because I wasn't sure what it was. At the time, it was a bit uncomfortable but not painful, and was probably the size of a marble. The doctor said I had two choices: have it lanced right then and there or go home and see if it got better. He said that he could not give me antibiotics because it was not infected. Not only did lancing it scare the hell out of me, but he also said that it was so small that he was afraid he might not hit the gland. I opted to go home.
Over the past week, the discomfort has gotten worse and the cyst has gotten larger. It is still not nearly as large as some of the horror stories I've read about online. It is probably about the size of a small egg. It is painful right now but I think that is mainly due to the stretched skin that has dried out from the many sitz baths I have taken. It hurts like hell to walk and move in certain positions.
For the past week I have used hot, damp washcloths on the cyst every once in a while, and have taken sitz baths 2-4 times daily, just starting to add Epsom Salts two nights ago. I started taking three silica pills a day three days ago. I started using the 1 oz calamine lotion, 1 tsp witch hazel and 1 tsp tea tree oil mixture I read about online last night. After feeling the pain of sitting down on and standing up from my office chair yesterday at work, I decided to call in sick today and spend the whole day trying to get this damn thing to burst.
I have literally read everything on the internet pertaining to Bartholin's cysts, and I have tried almost everything I have seen as far as home remedies go. I am trying to avoid going to the ER or the gyno to have this lanced because I have read that it is a painful process and a painful recovery, and that it still tends to reoccur once it is done.
Does anybody have any advice for me? Should I expect it to take more than a week to burst on its own? Can you feel it when it bursts?

I've never had one of these, but I've had cysts on my outer labia before (felt like a small bead under the skin). I've had success with just squeezing the cysts to get them to drain. I just press on the cyst from front and back of the labia. Sure it hurts, but usually with in a few tries and no more than a few seconds, it pops, the pus and blood drains and the pressure and tenderness is gone. I don't know if you can do this to your cyst, but since no one has replied, I thought I'd at least tell you about my experience with cysts.

I guess I am reading this too late based on when you posted it but if it helps anyways for future knowledge and especially if it's your first one, it does get easier in that the first one is always the worst because most people usually wait until it gets too far before doing anything about it. The second time around, you will feel the pain coming on and know you need to start the tea tree oil remedies and the hot compresses and sitz baths. And yes, you can absolutely feel it burst. It is relief you couldn't imagine until it happens. Usually, pus and blood will come out. In my experience, lancing it (which is the most painful thing in the universe because of all of the nerves down there) almost never works and it always comes back. The first time I had one, I had no idea what it was or what was happening to my body. I had to teach a class of 17 seven year olds and I could barely sit down or walk. I ended up getting it lanced and taking antiobotics and then it came back again somehow and I had to go to ER to go under and have it removed. The surgery is intense. I had to miss a week of work and couldn't even walk. You have to crawl to the bathroom and take tons of percocet. Don't ever let it get to that point. The moment you feel something coming on, you use every chance you get to lie down, spread eagle and keep a hot compress to that thing as often as you can.

Hi there! I've had a bartholin cycst now for over 3 years and it can be resolved at home. Although I've had mine drained at the doctors office twice, home remedies have proven to be the best solution for me. I do not recommend squeezing the gland. That can definitely cause further damage. I'm not a physician but I do work in healthcare and I've had extensive conversations with healthcare professionals regarding this type of cycst. What has generally worked for me are a combination of sitz baths, warm compressions and staying active. I workout at least 5 days a week and although it can be painful I've found that continuing to stay active really helps the cyst in coming to a head and eventually draining. Sitting and walking can become very painful but usually when it's at that point it's ready to drain itself. I hope this helps. Take care!
Bartholin Cyst Abscess resolved with apple cider vinegar and medicine.
This was my second go around of this horrible bartholin cyst. The first time, it was a painful two weeks of sitz baths, which were enough to help it go away without medical intervention.
This time, I had tried the tea tree oil mixture and sitz baths, to no avail. Thankfully, I found a home remedy that worked for me, after I had developed another abscess.
I went to the doctor for an antibiotic, which I took in conjunction with mucinex D. The combination helped with the pain, although, it was still fairly uncomfortable. After a week with the abscess and two days of taking the medicine - It was still fairly swollen and I would do anything to encourage it to go.
So I picked up a bottle of braggs apple cider vinegar and applied it to the cyst. Low and behold, 20 minutes later, it burst!
I thought I would post what worked for me, so hopefully it can help someone else.

I am new to this site, but I am getting desperate to get rid of this cyst. Apparently it is more common than I thought! Anyway, I have had a left bartholin gland cyst for months now, I can't even remember when I first noticed it. It seems to be about the size of a ping pong ball.
I had it lanced by my OBGYN in July and the catheter came out after four days! He told me i should leave it in for ten days, but from doing some research I have been seeing 4-6 weeks it should stay in at least. Mine definitely did not have time to drain properly. I absolutely do not want to have it lanced again..
That is a last resort.
I have read about the Bartholin Cyst Miracle Method book and also using calamine lotion, tea tree oil and witch hazel on a cotton ball.
Sitz baths are a pain because I run out of Epsom Salts so fast.
I would really appreciate your thoughts! -Dani

Hallelujah. Bartholin cyst hell over. I've been blogging home remedies to avoid surgery and today I didn't think I could stand the pain but then it drained! Started Friday, was uncomfortable Saturday, became really painful Sunday, limped to doctor on Monday to be told it was not infected nor was it that big but they could do surgery or I could wait for it to drain, Tuesday I took advil and went to work but could barely move, Wednesday I could not move at all till it popped. Over the days I tried lots of stuff. Did shots of apple cider vinegar, Epsom Salt baths several times a day, slept with turmeric and coconut oil on it, took Mucinex Monday and Tuesday, switched to silicea 30 on Wednesday morning and alternated apple cider vinegar on cotton on it and Tufts pads with witch hazel during Monday and Tuesday nights. When it burst I had decided it was unbearable but now it's healing. So so grateful for online forums. No surgery for me.
