Kidney STONES gone with D-mannose!
Don't quit taking the D-mannose when the pain goes away! You can CURE your kidney stones
if you keep taking it.
I am ready to declare that my chronic kidney stone
condition is CURED!
I'm in my late 60s and had my first kidney stone
about 20 years ago. Slowly went from one stone a year (requiring "extraction") to one a month, to one a week. Thankfully as they got more frequent they were less likely to cause a blockage, but still many did -- had easily a dozen surgeries. At one point I was passing several stones a day.
Finally got desperate and decided to look for a fix on my own. (Potassium citrate, allopurinol, et al had no obvious effect.) For some reason I decided to try D-mannose. (Yes, I know that D-mannose is for urinary infections, and no I was not having urinary infections, at least not all the time -- I did have a couple, so I know the difference in symptoms.)
Anyway, after 24 hours of taking high-dose D-mannose (several grams a day) the sensation of peeing glass disappeared. That alone was enough to hook me on the stuff. But then, after several days, I had a mega-peeing-glass episode. This might have discouraged some, but I decided to persevere, and the issue cleared up after a couple of days.
But that suggested to me that the stones were actually being dissolved somehow, and this was confirmed by a sort of tan-colored sediment in my urine, the color of kidney stones. (No, it was not myogobinuria. I have MADD which can cause that, so I know the difference in color.)
So as I continued, taking about 1500 mg of D-mannose plus a Urocit (potassium citrate) twice a day. Things got progressively better, but it was a long way to go -- my x-rays had shown my kidneys loaded with stones. So months turned into years, with slow but mostly steady improvement, until finally, after about 5 years, x-rays showed the stones gone. However, there was apparently some "crud" left behind by the dissolved stones, and that's taken another 6 months to (mostly) clear up, so that I now only feel minor "stone" symptoms every few days.
I was left, however, with urinary obstruction/urgency/frequency issues, and they weren't clearing up even as the stones cleared up. So, following up on another hunch, I cut out most and then all beverages containing aspartame. The difference was astounding. Then, on another hunch, I started taking a magnesium citrate supplement, and there was more astounding improvement. Makes me wonder what would have happened if I'd dropped Aspartame
and started magnesium years earlier.
