you dont believe the bible is the ultimate authority either. and it isnt. god is the ultimate authority. its one of the the things this group says that is true. they say a lot of true things. there also seems to be a lot of things they dont understand or are in error on.
they bring a lot of logic to the table. its easy for you to say the scripture is the ultimate authority but you have no answers about the things it contradicts itself about. you also point to other groups who use the same scriptures as their authority as being in error, like the JWs. so your standing is shaky at best.
they are pretty hard on the disciples and i think rightfully so. jesus coddled them during his ministry and catered to them mightily after the resurrection but they kept being interested in position and power and the coming kingdom which they thought was earthly. (i have told you my take on that, which is it was "earthly" and that the thousand year reign has come and gone) they also dragged their feet doing what jesus said, like leaving jerusalem (go ye into all the world) and spreading the good news (sent stephen) and the greatest among them would be the servant of all ("It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.")
so even though i do believe the word of god is not fallible, following rebels is not a viable choice. some logic must be present. god is not insane. or illogical.
you can no more blindly follow them than you can blindly follow someone today and be OK. unless of course the lord has told you to.
and then there is paul. you gotta come off your high horse with paul.
first of all, i listened to both segments on titus and they are right, paul sees jesus as a mere man. thats problem one. problem two is that he is a pharisee. you can take the boy out of the pharisees but can you take the pharisee out of the boy? paul would have you obeying your husband just as if he were christ himself and your salvation depended on it and you would be forbidden to say a word about god in public. how are you working around that shit? and how is doing that anywhere else with his writings a mortal sin?
and there are issues of period and circumstance. these letters of from paul are just that - they are letters. calling them epistles is just a con mans term. fancy words when simple ones would do to make the simple seem special. i call it bullshit, which is what it is. all fo this religious terms should be trashed like ecumenical and dispensational and such. speak english, MF. no one needs that but a buffoon hiding behind the terms. its not being educated, its being a con man. so these are just letters from paul to individuals or groups. i also told you about groups - god dont do groups. you can roll your eyes in your head like slot machine and he still dont do groups. one exception in a group and there is no group. there are always exceptions, like rahab the harlot, and then there is no group. its one on one, baby. no one is holding your hand into eternity. its just you and god. you know, the one youre supposed to be scared out of your mind about. that the way the originals in the scripture you say is infallible says anyway.
so you need to get real. but i really do appreciate you talking to me about it. i dont think your 40 minutes was wasted. its never a waste to obey god and i am sure you did it in obedience to his word. that is honorable no matter what else.
