Yes, watch the video. Maybe you will understand better after you watch it, or maybe you won’t. But...
Yes, watch the video. Maybe you will understand better after you watch it, or maybe you won't. But I don't think you understand what I am saying right now. We have run into this problem a lot where we are trying to debate an issue that is not clearly defined and understood by both sides. I think I know what I'm debating but I think you are debating something different, not sure what exactly.
But as Miles Mckee says in the video, Jesus didn't have to die for our physical healing, but he did have to die for our spiritual healing since God demands justice, and so Jesus died for our sins, in our place, so we could be justified. That is what the atonement was for, not physical well-being in these temporary bodies, although ultimately what Jesus did on the cross gained eternal salvation for us which will include glorified bodies that never get sick, die, etc.
I thought Miles brought up a good point about how we pray for our animals. I've always prayed for mine and sometimes they were healed. But did Jesus atone for the sickness of animals? No! Yet he still answers our prayers for healing sometimes for them.
God is sovereign over every breath we take. He keeps the heart pumping every minute, or we would die. He knows the number of hairs on our head.
He formed our bodies in the womb. We were fearfully and wonderfully made. So of course we go to him about everything, and we go to him and pray for healing which he can surely do. He's God, the creator of our bodies, so surely he can heal them, even though sometimes he has a grander purpose for not healing them.
But we are talking about the atonement here, or I am at least. What was the atonement for? It had a specific purpose. And that specific purpose wasn't our physical well-being in these temporary bodies, even though God does still care about all of that, but it's just a separate issue. The atonement is guaranteed to accomplish it's purpose for all that believe. And you don't even have to have strong belief, you can have weak belief, and it still accomplishes it's purpose, salvation from sin, and the gift of eternal life, for all that believe, even the weak in faith.
So to say something is in the atonement, physical well-being for this temporary life, when Christians everywhere are sick and dying, makes no sense. The atonement will not fail in accomplishing everything it was meant to accomplish for believers. But if physical healing for this temporary life is in the atonement, it's failing!
And if physical healing is in the atonement, this makes no sense whatsoever:
2 Cor 4:
16So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Why are we getting old and dying, why is our outer self wasting away, if Jesus died for our physical well-being and all sicknesses, etc.? We should live forever in these physical bodies and not die. Even if someone is said to have died of old age, their heart still stops. Do you know what that is? Heart failure! If someone dies young of heart failure, we don't think of that person as healed, but that they had an affliction. Right? But if they die of heart failure at an older age, they didn't have an affliction??? No, they still did. It's heart failure all the same when your heart stops beating no matter what age you are.
The issue is, did what Jesus do on the cross guarantee physical healing for all believers? Because it did guarantee salvation for all believers. If "by his stripes we are healed" means physical healing, then that means all believers should be healed, otherwise the atonement is a failure.
We don't want to join Kenneth Copeland do we and say that God is the biggest failure in the world, do we?
I sure don't! So these issues are important to get resolved. Maybe you have never thought the meaning of all this through, but believe me there are those that have, and it is shipwrecking the faith of many of those that are not healed.
