My doctor wants to check my blood calcium level as I have osteoporosis. I've not taken any supplements for a couple days as I ran out and won't be getting more for another week when my next ones come in the mail. I don't want to test now since I haven't been taking any.
Would it take a couple weeks of supplementation to get a good result or longer?
I want to get a good result as if I don't she may put me on Fosamax or something similar which I don't want to do.

Over 2300-years ago, the father of medicine, Hippocrates made the statement that all disorders start in the stomach. In many instances that statement is true today as it was in 371 BC. The only difference between then and now is pollution, toxic chemicals and chemical medications that man produces.
Malabsorption in the digestive process is the root cause of, Osteoporosis, Gastric Cancer, Gastroparesis, Type II Diabetes, Food Allergies, Reflux, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ulcerative Colitis, Gastritis, Dumping Syndrome, Asthma, IBS (leaky gut), skin disorders, SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), vitamin and mineral deficiency.
The disorders above did not come first, they were caused by Malabsorption, in the digestive process. Rather than treat the root cause of a disorder, many doctors treat the symptoms of the disorder. Treating just the symptom, will in many cases, not cure the disorder, only the symptom. In many instances the chemical medication, prescribed to treat the symptom, will cause new symptoms, or increase the severity of the existing disorder. A good example of this is, prescribing PPIs for people that are not producing sufficiently strong hydrochloric acid (hypochlorhydria), in the gut. The end result is they become Achlorhydric.
The symptoms common for all of the disorders listed are: abdominal bloating (gas, belching, Flatulence), abdominal pain, cramps, constipation and/or diarrhea, Reflux (or GERD), nausea, headaches, fatigue, skin disorders, anemia, weight loss and/or gain, food allergies, vomiting, failure to thrive, etc. You can put every one of these symptoms into one category, MALABSORPTION. If you have any of these symptoms, you can bet that the problem started in the stomach.
If you doubt that Malabsorption is the root cause for the disorders, search the internet for the causes of one of the disorders, you will always find digestive issues as one of the causes. The disorder didn't just happen overnight, it was caused by a digestive issue. If the disorder is caused by bacteria, the bacteria is not being destroyed, in the gut, by the strong hydrochloric acid. If it is a food allergy, it was caused by incomplete sterilization and conversions of a protein in the stomach, (low stomach acid). If the disorder is osteoporosis, it was caused by lack of absorption of the necessary vitamins and minerals (malabsorption).
Many doctors will not take the time to test for malabsorption, it is much easier to prescribe a medication. If malabsorption is suspected the fastest and most accurate testing method is a pH diagnostic test, or pH gastrogram. Correcting malabsorption will always improve a patient health and longevity.

It's probably going to be better for your health in the long run than downing selenium supplements and risking a very real overdose issue...

Osteoporosis is known as the silent killer. It causes the bones, in the body, to become porous (having small holes), which weakens the bone structure. There have been many clinical studies, over the years, on Osteoporosis. Scientist have determined that many disorders are related to this disease. A few of the causes are: aging, pregnancy, sedentary lifestyle, vitamin D deficiency, Celiac disease, estrogen, diuretic drugs, corticosteroid drugs, Cushing disease, anorexia, Bisphosphonate drugs, Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), etc.
Every one of the conditions mentioned relates back to a simple fact that impaired digestion can result in many disorders. Malnutrition is one of the primary causes of many disorders, including osteoporosis. Malnutrition can be the caused by drugs, like antibiotics, acid reducing medications (PPIs), antihistamines, and a host of other drugs. It can also be caused by the natural process of aging, pregnancy, stress, or environmental conditions.
Two of the most common conditions that cause malnutrition are Hypochlorhydria, and Achlorhydria. Hypochlorhydria is the reduction in the strength of the hydrochloric acid, produced by the stomachs parietal cells. Achlorhydria is the complete absence of hydrochloric acid, in the stomach. Strong hydrochloric acid is absolutely necessary, for sterilizing and breaking down the nutrients consumed. It is also necessary for assisting the Peptic enzymes in the conversion of proteins into peptones, which are necessary in the formation of the amino acids.
When the strength of the acid , in the stomach, diminishes there is less sterilization and conversion of the nutrients consumed. Week stomach acid allows raw nutrients to dump into the small bowel, resulting in reduced absorption, of the necessary vitamins and minerals, necessary to keep the body healthy. Hypochlorhydria and Achlorhydria will cause reduced absorption of vitamin B-12, vitamin D, Iron and calcium.
