Please consider that the Iodine may have pushed stored bromide into your bloodstream which caused severe bromism.
Early on in my Iodine research, I came across the effects of bromide in people who were not taking iodine but getting the same side effects as us iodine-takers.
Bromism has been carefully studied since the Gulf War soldiers were given Pyridostigmine Bromide and many became sick with various complaints including HAIR LOSS, HORMONAL CHANGES and PSYCHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS.
Also, medically, hair loss is considered a dermatolgy issue so there is stuff in the dermatology literature. Just google "bromism hair loss."
I'm so sorry you had to go through the loss of your hair. I was wondering where you were. Maybe the bromism piece of the puzzle will help. Maybe the salt water protocol may help mobilize the bromide. The Army used their own salt protocol for soldiers with bromism.
It is so easy to associate brominism symptoms with intake of iodine.
I have gone through several stages of detox of the halides. First was the foggy head stuff... even doing the salt pushes. And the horrible vivid dreams. Then the lower back ache... followed fast by knee and ankle aches, with hip aches - boy does that make it hard to get comfortable at night to sleep. Then the deepest and most vivid and psychologically applicable dreams- sequential and exploring the many possibilities of my life had I made different choices.. "This is your life" Iodine style. Then these painful big red facial and front chestal zits - salt pushes keep them at bay. -edit- And killer morning dragon breath! -end edit- Then the longest and most catatonic fatigue I have ever known. That is where I am now, even with the chloride pushes and when I up the amount of Iodine I take.
When someone does Macrobiotic eating and heals, when they go raw or juice and heal.. there are stages where the old is sloughed off and the toxins POUR out of the body and it feels like illness, looks like illness, but when it passes; cause it always does.. the person feels much better than before... maybe years better, even.
Losing hair can be part of going raw and going macro... the new hair that grows in is usually stronger, less gray and less sparse. I am not convinced that your hair is ruined never to return.
And at the same time, your experience is a great red flag to those of us dosing higher to consider. If whole body sufficiency can be reached in three months at 50 mg and 6 weeks at 100 - tested and proven with iodoral, then perhaps choosing to do those amounts for those times and then decreasing to a maintenance level is a really good next step for me at almost 9 weeks.
I certainly do not want to be in heavy detox forever. And I have yet to see anything anywhere that says that detoxing ends. So, being an old gal.. I confess I am doing this to have a life. That is the goal. When I was twenty I loved the idea of meditating my life away... and I suspect then I would have iodined my toxins right on out as fast as possible.
But with my growing awareness of the depth of my poisoning I am thinking sufficiency and then a couple drops a day might be enough and that the time is this coming week for me - my ninth week at 100 plus mg daily.

My experience has been very similar. I got the foggy head, the intense dreams, lower back pain, knee, ankle pain, hip ache. I also expelled lots of funky smelling urine. At 10-12 drops, I started getting really bad anxiety after every dose. When a pimple finally showed up on my cheek, the anxiety went off the charts, accelerated into some kind of weird psychotic paranoia.
I dropped way down, from 12 drops twice daily to four drops twice daily.
When V challenged us to abstain, and examine whether we are addicted to supplementation, I lowered the dose to two drops. I didn't quit completely, so I guess I am addicted.
Although I'm taking much less of everything, it feels like I'm still detoxing a little bit. Maybe some reserves built up in my system and they are still working to expel stuff? Something weird is going on in my mouth. It feels like there is a bruise under my tongue and a strange cut-like, or scratched area has appeared in my mouth, near my throat/jaw. I can smell a strange odor that nobody else can smell. Headache over right temple.
Cutting back has been an emotional relief. I do not like the anxiety. I will wait until I've replaced nickel crowns and Amalgam filling, then decide whether I want to increase the dose again.
We can remove moles by painting Iodine on them, thereby inducing apoptosis. I don't understand stages of hair growth, but here is a link to a patent for a hair growth product/drug?(I didn't research beyond the words, just looking for the connect) that stimulates apoptosis:
i have been getting the big zits lately on my forehead.
i am serious about the bromine inquiry. have i been packing around that much bromine? could this be a huge factor in death, disease and longevity?
what is it going to take to clear all this bromine out? where did it all come from? was i really oblivious to all the bromine i was taking in? my god, they use bromine in hot tubs, dont they? AAAAAACCCHHHH!!!!!!
Where on your forehead - along what meridians??? You are mining deep by now, and we must have it in the bones, I think.
I certainly have a lifetime of eating bread, baked goods, packaged food, swimming in and drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, fluoridated toothpaaste, mouthwashes, plenty of hours in hot tubs, lots of sodas for the first 30 years, medications and inoculations when young. So, I suspect bromide and bromine is everywhere... everywhere Iodine is supposed to be and then some.
I am getting them on my chin, jaw and cheeks. along the meridians.... and it looks like conception vessel, large intestine and triple burner for me.
Thank you SO very much for your concern (and your time spent researching and posting) - it's great to know there's so many folks out there that care!
Your research is extremely valid (in fact, I "dug in deep" to the bromine issues early on, and I've read that article (and other with similar information on brominism/bromine toxicity).
This would be a strong consideration for me...IF, I hadn't experienced various levels of bromine detox over the months (especially strong in the first two months). I DID experience a slight hair loss, along with various brain fogs and fluctuating hormones....all of them were fairly easy to control with salt/vitamin, backing off the Iodine (so no more bromine would be released)...and when the bromine levels were really high, I needed to do several coffee enemas and do a bit of light kidney flushing/herbs to assist my detox organs (as they were overwhelmed and very tender - sometimes achey). In all cases, the symptoms abated when I stopped taking the Iodine so that no more toxins would be released from their stores.
Also, I have experienced various levels/stages/symptoms of estrogen/progesterone fluctuation in the past, as well. So I am quite confident that me n' the ole "doctor within" have nailed this one right on the head. See: http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=933524#i
for more of my experiences/logic.
I have experimented and logged symptoms/dosages for months. I really do clearly recognize the symptoms/feelings/smells of bromine, and as much as I wish this situation could be blamed on bromine, I know it's not. At any given time, I have been able to increase the amounts of bromine by upping my dose. At first, 20 mgs causes bromine symptoms, then it took 40mg, then 60mg, etc. As we've all seen with trapper, I'm sure our storehouses of bromine are vast (the evil b*stards)...but it does take continued high doses to be able to continue to dislodge it (at least that's been the case for me). I haven't taken ANY iodine for over a month, yet my hair is still falling out (although I am seeing a slight rebalancing of the estrogen). So it's very doubtful that bromine is at the root of my harsh symptoms at this time.
I apologize for not having the time to paste/list all the incredible amounts of research I've done on this, but I don't have them all organized or saved. I read them, contemplated, discerned, put the information into my human memory..and bookmarked only a few of them. Iodine DOES decrease estrogen, in many cases drastically.
All of us 'long timers' know this already because we learned/studied that most FBD and Breast Cancer (all many other cancers and dis-ease) are caused by an excess of estrogen, and we know that iodine cures these diseases (and others of excess natural estrogen and the phytoestrogen). Brownstein says iodine DEficiency causes a lack of estrogen...and I, amongst many other posters DID see a slight increase in estrogen while we were becoming sufficient (I was especially able to notice this in levels of vaginal lubrication, a more balanced 'female/male' emotional/thinking state, etc). This lowering of estrogen (and effects on the hormone receptors..it's all very complex when you 'get into it') is probably one of the main reasons that the dosages prescribed for breast cancer/fbd is 50+ mg daily LONG after the '1-3 months of 50 mg to reach sufficiency' is reach (that, along with the apoptosis factor).
My body speaks very clearly about this, I obviously reached that baseline sufficiency level in the first couple of months, and continuing to take it has resulted in negative symptoms.
** A little rant ** I have no idea why it appears everyone is so unwillingly to accept the concept that once one reaches sufficiency and the body starts throwing off EVERY milligram that one ingests, that negative symptoms may result if you continue giving your body a substance that it's clearly not utilizing (and the kidneys are working to make sure all of it is removed from the bloodstream). The comment "too much of ANYthing can kill you" is SO prevalent on this board. I just don't 'get' why it seems that applies to everything but too much iodine...especially all anyone has to do is Google the words estrogen & iodine together, and they'll find hundreds of hits and ample documentation of how iodine lowers estrogen. ** end of lil' rant **
Citing, I really DO appreciate your information (and your time, all of your posts, and letting me know I've been missed). I am not angry with anyone, just a bit frazzled that my decades worth of experience in the world of natural health/healing, , my CZ 'track record', my reports of my experiences with iodine and estrogen loss, don't seem to amount to anything much but a springboard for others to try to find a reason why I can't possibly be correct and/or that taking more iodine that ones' body clearly needs could cause adverse effects...and the evidence and research that iodine lowers estrogen is all OVER the place. :::sigh:::
Please forgive me (everybody!) if I'm coming across as being "anti" iodine, or I've assumed anything incorrectly. (Citing, I don't think you were trying to "defend" iodine, I'm sure you're just trying to provide information that I may have missed).
As far as getting back to post, I'm not likely to be posting much more frequently than I have in the past few months. We are self-employed artists and we actually DO "work" 14 hours a day. Two or three hours of posting several times weekly easily adds up to many lost work days monthly. On top of that, I am caring for my mother (who has been extremely/negatively affected by psychopharmaceuticals which has resulted in a mental state of basically being unable to motivate herself to bathe and/or take care of the most basic levels of functioning - she is staying with her sister/brother-in-law (my aunt & uncle), but I spend up to several hours with her daily. Also, my uncle is now an invalid (after a recent 4 MONTHS in the hospitals, where he acquired a 'super staph' infection, it went unnoticed and he developed a huge 'cyst' of staph on his spinal cord which actually destroyed some of the nerves to his legs. He is in constant excruciating pain and now is dependent upon a walker (sometimes his pain is so severe that he can't even twist around to wipe his butt). Needless to say, my aunt (who has to work full time at 68 years old) is overwhelmed with responsibilities (and my mother, who SHOULD be able to provide all kinds of assistance, is now an added burden). I try to do my best to help...I cook almost half of their food AND my husband n' myself spend several hours weekly doing their grocery shopping and running errands. This has resulted in a "near bankruptcy" state for us...and frustratingly, every word/post I make on Curezone negatively impacts our income further. (being artists AND self-employed, we have to create everything we sell, AND be responsible for selling it).
Combine that with the very real fact that I feel I'm being disrespectful to others if/when I don't respond to their questions and concerns fully and adequately (and I have a true desire to help others anyway)...and it all adds up to Curezone being a stresser in my life that I simply don't have the time (or the energy) for, at least not at this particular place on my life's pathway.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to compile & post the information that you did. I really do appreciate it!
My hair is still falling out in chunks - BIG CHUNKS..... I am feeling so much better both mentally and physically. Still losing weight and doing really well, except for the hair loss. This is now concerning me so much that I am going to take a break from iodine. I seriously don't know what else to do. I will still get some Iodine as it is in my "deodorant". But I am not planning on ingesting any for a week or so to see if it has any impact on my hair loss.
