I started taking iodine about 3 months ago. I take between 10-15 drops a day; it depends on my schedule which varies widely from day to day. I do the salt loading, vit C, selenium, etc. I started IP6 today.
About three weeks ago, I started having a lot of breast pain. I would say it is similar to the pain I know just before a period (I am past that stage - no longer have those). It is more intense and it is at it's peak when I get up in the morning and the pain is in both breasts equally.
My breasts do seem somewhat swollen, but when I look at the rest of my body, I am not retaining water anywhere else. In fact my water retention problem, in general, has improved since taking iodine.
About 3 weeks into this I could feel my cysts(2) softening. About a month into this I started having really deep pain, unlike the "normal" FBD pain. "Normal" FBD pain, for me, is(WAS!!!) twinges, sparks, shooting pains, achiness, heaviness, fullness of breasts and nipple sensitivity(not the fun kind, the "don't touch me" kind)...So this deep pain was a new experience. Another poster, "Refreshed" reported that her breasts were hurting more for a time, and I also found this, reported in the literature:
"transient increase in breast pain (5.7% incidence)."
So THAT made me feel better:) and THEN my pain changed, I had the pre-pain sensitivity, but no pain(this was in the cystic area. The sensation was like an electrical current, sort of a coming back to life:) & NOW my boobs feel good! I went bra shopping recently, I had to as my old ones were getting downright baggy. I've gone from a 36C to a 36B. I've lost a full cup size of swollen, heavy, painful tissue. And today, when I feel my breast, my cysts have completely lost definition. The area is still "thicker" and there is also a thicker area near my chest wall so I am by no means cured at this point, but I'm getting there:) Overall, my breasts have softened and feel good. I could very well have been on the road to cancer, no more:) I also have an overall feeling of well-being and clarity... :)
well, since that time, my original cysts are completely gone, howEVer, now that the texture of my breasts has changed so much I became aware of another mass on my chest wall. I have had sporadic pain in that area as well now, and I am monitoring the changing of the tissue...from a mass to cystic lumps, 3, as far as I can tell. These cysts have swollen like the original two did, so I am imagining that it will go through the same cycle of tissue changes...
Do you drink coffee?
I don't know that all of we women with FBD are going to go through the exact same cycle of pain/sensitivity/healing. That one reference is the ONLY reference I could find that addresses a transitory increase.
One thing I DO know is that it seems that pain can be an indicator of increased activity. Folks here have reported sore throats, scary heart palpitations,...I'm not sure of the exact physiology at work here...I'm going to post this & will be editing shortly... :)
EDIT, another cut & paste, interesting stuff about regenerating nerves:
Pp. 15 - 25 cover iodine. I have never come across Lewis Ford before, he does sell his own Iodine supplements, so of course he will espouse ideas that promote that. He is in agreement, however, with the thought that we are woefully deficient in iodine. Lots of interesting reading here, do give it a look.
He says that the best *final* dosage of Iodine for women is 12 mg. per day, for men, 8-12 mg.
I found this interesting:
(in reference to *final* dosage) "About 90-95% of American Adults can start right at those final high doses with no health problems...
Even 1 mg. per day, however, is still too high a dosage for about 5 - 10% of American adults to BEGIN with. It may take months, or even years, for the millions of Americans suffering from more severe thyroid problems and/or "diabetic neuropathy" to get used to eating that much iodide. This is because as dying peripheral nerves start being revived with more optimal Iodide levels and metabolism, they usually do not function normally for months or even years. Instead, they tend to signal to the brain sensations of intense itching/phantom pains. To help reduce these very distracting and painful problems, it is more comfortable to start with just 1/2 mg. Iodide per day. This is about 3-4 times as much as most Americans are currently getting, but it is still a low enough dosage not to overly aggravate the peripheral itching and pain problems."
oh! and one more thing, the other day I had a huge "shock" of pain in my cystic area...this was an intense "detox" day, I'd started IP6 a few days prior...
I'm isolating the IP6 now, pausing the iodine protocol for a few weeks..actually, just maintenance dosing, 12.5 mg... :)
The reports from the vast majority of respondents has been positive, and I think that includes your report, sans the breast pain. We've also seen lots of folks who experience negatives and then just abstain for a few days and in lots of those cases the negatives go away in a day or two, with ingesting additional chloride in many cases hastening alleviation. Other than these empirical observations, I don't know ! If it were me, I would try to eat extra green leafy substances, with kale , mustard greens and spinach being preferred (raw , if possible).
good stuff, my favorite is to use an Italian dressing prep'd using raspberry vinegar/olive oil, & of course shredded carrots and some purpole stuff, like purple cabbage, purple lettuce & a purple onion. OK, maybe they're red, but they look purple to me.
