After reading the posts and doing research sounds like Iodoral is more effective than Lugol's in getting Iodine levels up. Anyone had a better result from just taking Lugol's? I just ordered 4 bottles of Lugol's and think I might order some Iodoral before the potency gets decreased, just to have some on hand.
I would like to take a Iodine loading test and maybe get my dd to take one, too. Any advice. Does this test have to go thru a dr? Every site I've been on seems dr. enclined.
My husband and I have been taking Lugols in dosages from 0-100mg daily since 2/20/07.
We have seen all kinds of evidence that we are both absorbing the Lugol's and that our body's are utilzing it extremely effectively.
We have not taken a loading test as we have no reason to take one.
I feel there is no possible reason why Lugol's in tablet form with a bit of a 'glaze' on it would be more likely to be absorbed or more effective...in fact I feel just the opposite is true. A liquid can be easily/readily absorbed & utilized; a tablet must be digested.
Also, the liquid can be used for topical applications and all variety of skin painting, treating skin growths, blended with other healing substances, etc. (I used a few drops mixed in water last night as a mouthwash to ease an red/inflamed gum area).
As far as I've read (and obviously, I could have easily missed evidence to the contrary), I have seen nothing but anecdotal stories...which are good 'for consideration' (and help to create a theory to put to 'the test'), but they don't provide proof of anything. For example (I think I'm remembering it correctly), one person reported that another person taking Lugol's for a long time took a loading test and showed very little absorbtion had taken place... but the person took either no Vitamin C or very little (or they didn't know) while taking the Lugol's (Vitamin C is necessary to correct issues if the body is not absorbing iodine). So without knowing if the person took Vitamin C in adequate amounts along with the Lugol's, we can't determine anything.
Now, if they start taking Iodoral WITHOUT using Vitamin C, take a loading test, and then they show absorbtion...well, then you have ONE case where that has happened. But if they take Vitamin C with the Iodoral, then there's no way to know if it was the form of Lugols (liquid or tablet) or the Vitamin C.
I don't have time to be posting more today, but if you have posts/links I missed 'at the ready' that show several people have valid evidence that they aborbed Iodoral better than Lugol's, I'd LOVE to see it/them.
I have hypothyroid. I have used Iodoral with little success in obtaining any real benefit. It is enteric coated. Not much (I was taking 50 mgs.) was reaching where it needed to go. Iodine loading test will not always give you a true reading. It measures what is in your urine, not how much is in your bowel. Anyway - both Lugol's and Iodoral contain Iodine (needed by your WHOLE body) and potassium Iodide (needed by your THYROID). So, you are basically supplying your body (even if you are taking the maximum suggested dose of Iodoral at 50 mgs (4 tablets) about 25 mg of potassium Iodide for your thyroid. If you are deficient – at that dose it could take up to 6 months to notice any improvement. You know when your thyroid is working when your body temperature is normal. Rather than walking around with a thermometer all day, I gauge how well I am doing by whether or not my hands and feet are warm. There is a product that you can get called TRI-QUENCH from Scientific Botanicals that contains only Potassium Iodide. 1 drop equals 19 mg. Also, what they don’t tell you is that Iodine and Potassium Iodide work much better when taken with LIQUID magnesium or LIQUID minerals and some sort of citric acid , apple cider vinegar, orange juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, lemon water…. If you are going to use Lugol’s start out with a few drops and work up to half a dropper-full. Do this at night before bedtime to obtain the full benefit. It is very soothing to your adrenals and helps them heal as well. During the day, if my hands and feet are cold, I put 3 drops of SSKI in some distilled water that has also been dosed with liquid minerals. You will break out in bumps for the first month or so – at this dose your body will begin to expel bromine, fluoride, chlorine, and lots of other icky heavy metals (in addition to killing all sorts of parasites). Your poops will smell like you had sushi for dinner. If the breakouts are really bothersome decrease your dose and add something that has a lot of chlorophyll in it (chlorella, blue green algae, parsley juice or cilantro juice). If you Google any of the terms I have put in here you’ll see the research to substantiate what I’ve stated here. Another thing that helps is getting something call a “chi machine” (buy a used one, folks, don’t spend a lot of money on getting a new one) since it’s very relaxing and increases your lymphatic drainage and overall blood circulation. I have also had great success using a brood light (get it at the hardware store) and an infrared heat lamp (also at the hardware store) to create my own far infra red (FIR) heat lamp. Applied to the back of the shoulders, the front of the shoulders and finally the throat areas, feels really soothing, gets the circulation going and helps to drain the swollen tissues commonly found in thyroid patients. I have been doing this for about six weeks and I can finally see my jaw outline. Wooo Hooo!
I have had perfectly fine results using Lugol's solution 5%. I discovered my Iodine deficiency long before ever reading about Dr. Brownstein and his recommendations. Because Lugol's works so well for me I do not want to rock the boat by switching to something else.
I've never done a loading test. I had been using 50 MG Iodoral for about 6 months. I then switched to Lugol's 5% about 6 weeks ago to save $$. I've had some good results from this that I didn't get from Iodoral such as increased body temp and libido. Finally have warm hands and feet. I assume there was an absorption issue with the pill?? Love the liquid! Hasn't irritated my stomach at all, but I did have another detox that lasted for maybe a week (visited the bathroom every time I ate:).
