Should one buy unsulphured blackstrap molasses from bulk store (bulk barn in Toronto)? The price is very reasonable. I have been using it and find that it stains my teeth although I do oil pulling. My concern is that are nutrients lost?
Can anyone suggest where I can get reasonably priced molasses in Toronto? I love it and have it in my cereals and moreorless drink (with acv, cayenne and tumeric). My blood test showed low in iron even though I take more than 1 tbl every day so I am wondering if this bulk molasses is doing any good. I did not use BSM when on vacation and noticed my teeth had become white.
hmm. That store is only in Thunder Bay, in Ontario...Looks like a version of Loblaw's Superstore, which I admit can be pretty appealing in terms of sheer abundance.
For me, it's important that the BSM is organic, as it is a main part of my diet. I am in love with Wholesome brand organic unsulphured molasses, and yes, it IS sort of expensive. 10.00 for 32 ounces. I could probably find it cheaper if I shopped around, but I buy it at my local small health food store; it dismays me to see that every smaller store is being replaced with these "superstores", and that cost , above all else, determines where more and more of us shop. It won't be long before we're completely superstored out. How bleak that eventuality looks to me--the loss of vibrancy in small business. For that reason I do support smaller stores..and am willing to pay more, but I think it might be worth looking into bulk buying of Wholesome--directly from them.( if a person cares about the molasses being organic and tasting "delicious" (says me))
I checked it out and It seems to come to about half the price of store-bought! (not sure yet about shipping) and haven't been able to commit to buying by the case, just yet.
On a related subject -- how is your kelp? I've been buying Now powder, supposedly Norwegian (though it doesn't say so on the bottle) and it's pretty gritty. A bit rough. Soon I'll need more...I'm wondering if there is something someone else in Ontario has tried that they've found to be an improvement over the bottle of Now.
