Can someone tell me the difference betwen cold pressed and expeller pressed oils? I've found expeller pressed sesame oil but I'm having trouble finding cold pressed. I noticed on http://www.oilpulling.com the oil recommended is cold pressed. So far (1 week) I've pulled with expeller pressed and the most significant difference is I am sleeping through the night. A week ago I was getting up at least 3 times anight to use the bathroom. If this does nothing else I'm very happy sleeping better, however, I think this is only the beginning and I thank God every night for finding this site.
that the reason that you have not been able to find cold pressed sesame oil is because sesame oil is not extracted by that method. According to Mountain Rose Herbs catalogue, cold pressing is "not a practical method for some vegetable oils, but highly regarded as the method of choice."
In expeller pressing, "only a small amount of heat is produced from friction generated by hydraulic presses, usually around 120-200 F. It makes a fine food grade oil and base for bodycare because of it's fairly undisturbed molecular state."
The oils we want to stay away from are refined & partially refined...Refinement methods can include flash fluctuation in temperature as high as 450F and winterization as low as -30F, deodorization, and bleaching.
Unrefined, cold pressed and expeller pressed are the way to go! :)
