Hi All, I have just started a 3month course of Terbinafine [the generic name for Lamisil] I have taken it before for rotten toenails, which were cured, but have all returned after about 3/4 years, due to systemic candida. I belive that this drug is very safe and that reactions are rare. I certainly didn't have any problems with it last time. I believe that many people experience die-off of intestinal candida, which is taken by their Drs to be a reaction to the drug.[as many drs don't believe in systemic candida ]
I'm also on a product called Lepicol [psyllium husk, fructo-oligosaccarides and 5 probiotics], available in the UK for chronic constipation, which is working very well. I don't take it at the same time as the Terbinafine.
I'm also on MSM and zink with vit C, and a liquid iron and vit suppliment.
Basic to the treatment is the cutting out of all sugars.[except that in the Lepicol, which is there to feed the Bifidus]
I have been feeling better over the last week, have more energy, and I feel that somthing is working.
Any comments from you clever scientists appreciated, and I'll let you how I go. Love and Light, Deotima.
Hi Queta, Hope it works for you. Keep posting on this site and we will compare notes as we go.I was very lucky to get my Lamisil via our UK National Health Service, and my nice GP, for free. I started for one week with half a tablet a day [full dose one tab per day],as I didn't want to get bad candida die-off. The MSM and zinc was cheap as I got a big pot of it in powder form from an animal food store [for horses].I take a teaspoon twice a day, dissolved in a glass of warm water with a fizzy vit C [500mg], but it's all an experiment.Where do you live? Love and light, Deotima.
That sounds wonderful! Good luck :-). Just make sure your practitioner keeps you on the medication long enough to clear the candida. Mine didn't do that and I think maybe that's why it didn't help me long term. I read somewhere once that it can take 18 months of continuous treatment ( of RX antifungals ). Lordy I think my poorly liver would explode now! LOL. It wasn't always quite as bad as it is now though ( too many years of illness have stressed it ).
By the way,I LOVE that you're also doing a Bowel Cleanse at the same time. My nurse prac never told me about bowel cleansing so I was just rowing with one oar.
Thanks Stannard. From the good work done by North it seems that the Lamisil/Terbinafine should not damage the good guys that are in the Lepicol Bowel Cleanse too seriously. I awoke this morning with a very runny nose for about an hour, but none of the usual signs of a cold. I have hopes that the MSM I took before going to bed last night has started to clear my blocked candida ridden sinuses.
Here are some interesting facts about MSM ['Brimstone' organic sulphur] that came from a non-profit making UK site: http://www.candida-society.org
1.MSM discourages candida as it competes for binding receptor sites in mucas membrane, and removes worms.
2.Detoxifies and hydrates the body as it is responsible for ionic exchange in the sodium-potassium pump in the cells [Nutriments in - toxins out]
3.Sulphur is a componant of insulin and can keep blood Sugar stable [prevent diabetes]
4.Improves joint flexability [cleans and nourishes synovial fluid]
5.Clears and strenghthens hair, skin and nails.
MSM is best used with Vit C and zinc.
Happy candida hunting. Love and light, Deotima.
Yeah I've read a lot about MSM. I wasn't aware it helped with sinus trouble though. Hmmm. it's been a long long time since I've read anything on MSM...better get to exploring again :-). I took it for a while, a few years back. I couldn't tell any difference with my candida, but boy was my hair lovely and shiny. Maybe worth using it again. I've been exercising pretty rigorously lately and running on the treadmill. My joints are REALLY taking a beating though :-(. I woke up last night and my knee was throbbing. Maybe MSM could help with that? What brand do you take?
By the way, I am most intrigued by that link. You have a national Candida Society in the UK??? Wow. It's sure not widely accepted over here. Don't think we have any kind of national candida society. Anybody know?? Interesting indeed.
Yes we have lots of non-profit making organisations, usually run by previous suffers [out of the goodness of their hearts] that are excellent.
The MSM I am taking is with zinc [ Vit C is also necessary]it is made by NAF [Natural Animal Feeds]Monmouth.[www.naf-uk.com] It is packaged with instructions for feeding horses. It's much cheaper that way 300grams was £14.0 I don't know what that is in $s.It should last quite a long time at 1 teaspoon x 2 a day. I would go to an animal feed shop and enquire, lots of people use it for old stiff horses to keep them running or after a tough competion. It's already helped my stiff back and shoulder after only 10 days.Good luck. Love and Light Deotima.
I agree completely,
I have been hospitalized for poisoning from Lamisil.
But the tests showed no allergic reaction.
I have psoriasis, and after I left the hospital my psoriasis was gone completely.
The poisoning was more likely caused by the massive die off of the yeast/fungus.
And one of the causes of psoriasis is often thought to be Candida (which causes thinning of the intestinal wall, also called leaky gut).
But measures are necessary to prevent a relapse of the Candida
Hi Deotima, it's good to hear that you are doing well in treating your condition. I also have systemic candida and one of the worse parts of having one is the frequent occurrence of nail fungus. I tried Lamisil before, but it did not totally address my problem with toenail fungus. What I found to be truly effective in treating nail fungus is Zerofungus cream. I don't know if you've heard about it, but it's the only otc that worked for me. I have nothing against, Lamisil, honestly. The effect of such medication depends from one person to another, and it just so happened that it did not totally eliminate my issue with nail fungus.
I tried lamisil. I witnessed die off symptoms but no other strange symtpoms. Furthermore the effect is very long.
Lamisil is used for skin candidiasis but i DID notice interesting intestinal die-off reactions.
Things are strange because the doctors suggest to take Difflucan (fluconazole) against Candida. But i took as much as i could and i have no results at all. On the other hand, Terbinafine is not very well known and have a REAL effect.
I think it would be smart to associate Terbinafine with itrocanazole. I had also very good results with itraconazole.
On the other hand, i tried amphotericin B that is the so called antifungal of choice for systemic candidiasis and i had no results at all.
My die-off symptoms are:
-leaky gut. It feels i m getting rid of something acid. ( i had this reaction before)
-brainfog going to the max
-nose sneezing (like i have a flu)
-Slight feeling of having a cold.
Hello, could you please tell me how long you took it for and how long you had problem for? Will one tablet a day for 4wks (aswell as the strict diet), be helpful for me if I have had candida problem for a year?
