I am a new raw vegetarian. It has been about five months now and I still have a problem with my stool. It seems to bee undigested. When I experimented with cooked food, the stool came out normal. What is going on with the raw food? Do I have a malabsorption problem? If so, what to do to correct this?
Have you tried juicing. My understanding is that when you make a major change in diet, it takes some time for the digestive system to get used to it. The nutrients in fresh juices will be absorbed better than the whole food. I too am switching to a raw diet and from what I've read and what people tell me, it is probably a good idea to get a juicer and do a juice fast for atleast a few days. Get back to the solid stuff gradually and if it helps. Also, have you ever done a bowel cleanse?
Yes, I have a champion juicer. I juice during the day, and have one nice big salad for lunch. It is this salad that does not digest. I am so glad to hear that it just takes time for your digestive system to adjust. Any idea how long it takes?
I can't say for sure. However, though I've never tried it myself, I know that taking a digestive enzyme supplement can help alot too. I have never purchased the stuff so I can't tell you details but I know that alot of people get the supplements and if you ask at your local healthfood store, they should be able to get you the right thing. Plus, I would definately do a colon cleanse. I am doing Dr. Schulze but it can be a little harsh on some. You can also get Colon Cleanse kits at most health stores which are usually pretty easy. It will clean out all the crud and get things working a little sooner. Plus, if you've never done one you should try it. You feel sooo good afterwards.
Good to know that I am not alone in this......I have been facing the same discomfort eversince I switched more towards a raw diet. Yes juicing helps but what helps more is physical activity/workout. I feel the digestion get better on the days I do some workouts. Most of us have sedentary life styles (glued to computers, locked in air conditioned environments) and that is as harmful as a bad diet!!!
Check out different raw food websights for more information. You might want to try eating freshly sprouted foods. There are enzymes to be found in freshly sprouted foods that can help your digestive system when your on a raw food diet.
Ever wonder why many animals prefer to eat the freshly sprouted or newly growing parts of a plant? Ease of digestion and thus greater nutrient uptake are at least part of the equation.
Sounds to me like what I experience when I eat oranges. It isn't like diahria it is just as if it is not solidly digested.
A holistic doctor told me this was symptomatic of a food allergy. It is your bodies way of getting an offending substance out of you as quickly as possible; even before thorough digestion.
You might want to consider if you may have a particular food that you eat alot of that you are somewhat allergic too. It could even be one of your favorite foods and one to which you show no other outward or inward symptoms as this is exactly my experience with oranges.
