I was diagnosed as having a skin fungus over a year ago. The doctor gave me a lotrimin(combination steroid and anti fungal). This would seem to work but would never totally eradicate the fungus. About 4 days ago I started applying coconut oil topically. Its expeller pressed and organic(omega nutrition). My symptoms seem to be worse. The fungus is getting itchier and a bit more inflamed looking. Is this normal? Should I stick with the oil? Is this just the fungus fighting back at first? The healthy skin doesn't seem to have any adverse reaction to the oil just the fungal lesions. I actually tried tea tree oil on it about a month ago and had a similar reaction. So now I'm wondering if this is a sort of "die off effect". I gave up on the tea tree oil when things seemed to be getting worse, however I've also read tea tree oil can be harsh on the skin unless diluted. I haven't heard that about coconut oil.
You are describing healing crises in both cases. It's a phenomenon that the Chinese call "reliving" and it really does get worse before it gets better. Each healing crisis will be short lived and will lead you closer to good health. IMHO the die off is what causes healing crises; so you are right on the money!
Hope this helps. Try diluting the Tea Tree oil with the coconut oil for a more powerful fungus killer. Ahem.
