I have had for years stones in my salivary glands.. From time to time I pass them from under the tongue and they
are small white and soft like cooked rice but the size of small peas. My question is: Does anyone know how and
why they form? Also, how can I flush them from the glands. It seems like they pass in the Fall of the year, I haven't
had any for many months pass now. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Anne
I have these stones too as well. They are produced from bacteria build up in a "tonsil crypt" (hole) which I have found in my mouth.
From time to time I pass these stones. They are called "tonsil stones" They are usually white and are small like you stated. I have made an appointment with an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat Doctor) to find out what I need to do.
I want to have the opening for bacteria closed. I don't think it is a good thing for bacteria to be building up into a "ball" in a hole in the mouth.
Research through the internet on "tonsil stones" and "tonsil crypt".
Hope this helps!

No, mine are not tonsil stones. I have had my salivary glands xrayed and these are formed and stored in there.
It looks on an exray like a circle with polka dots...funny sight.
At one time, years ago they wanted to surgically remove my salivary glands, then I would really have problems..
...STUPID IDEA. I said no and have really no problem with them. They just pass from time to time from under the
tongue. I would like to know how they form and how to encourage them to pass from the gland..Any ideas..?
I just developed salivary stone. My doctor is talking about removing the gland. I only want stone removed. How long did it take for your stone to pass? This is my second day, I cannot eat and I look awful. I need to get a cat scan. Xray showd nothing. Do these stones pass in a few days?
Have you tried milking the glands or just a good massage where you have the pain and then apply a heat pack for 20 mins. Also try sucking a lemon or buy some spur lemon sweets . It will help to put the saliva back into your mouth . I have managed at the weekend to get rid of the pain with this complaint and the dentist is quite happy no infection told me to continue the milking or massaging the gland and the heat pack . The worse part is the salty taste in the mouth while draining . So I am drinking plenty of cold water with lemon juice in it. The swelling has gone as well. It may be worth a try. I think mine has come from a viral infection as my oral standards are pretty high and have to be as have dental implants . Hope these tips work for you all as it is a painful thing to have .
i have the tonsil stones too. they are very gross and i wish i could get rid of them but oyu cant unless you get your tonsils taken out which is not worth it to me. the only way to clean them out is to use a WATER PIK. you can buy these at walmart and you should flush out the crept about 3 times a week or how ever much you feel you need to clean them out. they also cause halitosis (bad breath) and that is really a bad thing so you should chew gum or flush your tonsils out quite often!
Re: What a stock I to hear about someone having what I have just delevoped on Monday morning 7/7/03. Couldn't open my mouth just was swollen shut, high fever and trobbing pain, couldn't talk.
(1) thing salt and warm water gargle, didn't help much.
(20 lemon drops helps salivary descresion, less salivary and not
so heavy for I couldn't swollow and coked on it, breathing was hard to do. Then I called my doctor told me to come right away
and I did, said sore throat take antbactics and it will clear it up, I ask what was it he didn't know , I went home and to bed sleep.Checked on the net and found inforamtion about glands.http;//www.prodigy.nhs.uk/clincialguidance/releaseguidance/webBrowser/pils/PL494.htm. States about 8 to 10 salivary stones form in one of the submandibular glands. it is thought that the uphill drainage and slightly thicker saliva that is made in these glands is why stones are more lightly to form there. The larger parotid glands drain saliva siadways into the mouth. well hope this information is helpful I am due for surgery Monday after noon
a 2 p.m. my doctor stated my glands is destroyed and needs to be removed, for it would keep recurring infections of the glands under
my tongue I have the little rice looking things to lemons drops or lemon slices will remove it quite if you can stand to taste of the leakage nasty taste, it really helps get it down, swelling desides
really quick, they state more common in men reason be why they form is unknown. calcium in the body TREATMENT: some come out by their self. some won't go qway unless they are removed. rubbing the stone and placing warm heat helps with the lemon in side the mouth to break up infection. shock wave treatment (lithotripsy) may be a option, ultrasound waves to break up the stones. my stone is to large to pass and the gland needs to be removed, like a egg and under my tongue rice unlimited, never in my life ever had this happen to me and surgery is my next step, doctors say it hapeen and is unknown why, but with people with recurring stones else where in their body they are know stone maker, kidney, gallbladder
I have had kidney stones several times not gall bladder removed,
thought I was having heart pain it was gll bladder pain. dryness of the mouth is very important in getting the stones started, and end up a stone, saliva turns to stone when it drys up, be careful
for the dryness does a hurting on your glands, dring plenty of water and lemons tasting for the loosing the thickness of saliva.
I coldn't talk and pain unbearable to much for me too handle taking pain killer didn't help much, I had to go to the enemgency
room and get injections of morefen and corizone shot for the pain.

I hope I have help with my experience of stones in my glands.
Please don't let it go on for it can recurr many times over if your glands become damaged and infections disease come from it.
hi my name is michelle and for a year now i have "stones" in my salivary glands. i have been to many doctors with this problem and i ahave taken lots of pills but nothing seems to move them. my neck swells up to the size of a golf ball when i eat and it getsreally sore, do you have any problems like this?
Yes hi Michelle, I had a small salivary gland stone near the bottom opening duct of my mouth in December of 2012 I had an oral surgeon perform whats called a "sialolithotomy," where he used a laser to remove the stone and leave the duct open. However, in January of 2014, I was having pain and swelling like you describe, I went to the ER, they did a CT scan and found a 6mm salivary gland stone in my left submandibular gland (thats beneath the jaw area in the neck). I saw an ENT doctor and had surgery to remove the entire gland with several stones inside. So yes every time you eat, the glands produce saliva to flow through the ducts, but since there's a stone obstructing the flow of saliva, it blocks the flow of saliva through the ducts to get released into your mouth. This blockage causes inflammation and severe swelling, but once you stop eating, the inflammation decreases. Best thing to do is to see your Primary Care Doctor and have him take an X-ray or CT Scan to find out how big the stones are, if you dont have them removed, then the problem can get worse, more stones can develop and your entire face can be swollen like a balloon. I've seen some pretty horrible cases where people just waited too long and there entire face was like a puffer fish. Dont wait until its too late, get it taken care of. They put me on antibiotics after the first diagnoses I had in January to reduce the inflammation and infection, however NO PILL will remove the stone, and if its too big, chewing on sour candies wont help if its too big to get pushed through the ducts. Hope this helped. By the way you have a total of 6 salivary glands, two parotid glands on either sides of the ear, two submandibular glands one under each jaw area (they each produce about 70% saliva each), and one sub-lingual gland underneath your chin neck area below your tongue. So removing one wont give you a dry mouth, your other glands should keep your mouth moist.
