Hello; I am a student, author, and psychiatric survivor. Since 1985 I have been on psychiatric medications. First Prolixin, Cogentin, and Mellaril; then from Oct. 99 'til Mar. 2002 on just Zyprexa. Prolixin varied from around 25-50 mg a day; cogentin 1 gram; Zyrpexa 5 mg daily.
Have been doing Bates Natural Vision Healing Method since Oct of 2001 on advice of nutritionist and Bates Vision Student. She has advised me to do a raw diet (Aajenous Vonderplanitz) and I have consistently done unpasterized milk, cream, and also some fresh meats, raw mixed vegetable juice, and much herbal tea for past 4 months or so.
Question is: I am new here and just learning. Have been fasting on mixed raw veggie juice off and on for around 11 days. Am now going on 4 more days raw veggie juice fast. WHY does my liver hurt so much? Feels like it's going to explode any minute. Have been advised to stay at home and fast for 4-7 days and avoid MDs, and stressful people and situations. My back aches and my head hurts and I feel flushed. I feel like crap.
Any advice appreciated. Especially valued is input from other Psychiatric Survivors, or anyone ever diagnosed with Mental Illness of any sort or put on Psychiatric meds.
Psych meds are PURE POISON. They dampened my energy, health, sex drive, creativity, personality, etc.

I suffered from depression on and off for many years, also PMT (really badly), migraines and general lethargy. What changed it all for me was going vegan. I think our bodies have a hard time digesting animal products and in the case of dairy a great deal of the world loses its tolerance for lactose once weaned.
Anyway, since adopting a high raw vegan diet three years ago, which includes plenty of juice and fresh oils (may particular favourite is Udoís), my depression has gone completely as has my PMT, which is a real relief. My migraines, which used to last three days at a time and happen twice a month, have now turned into the occasional light headache (one every three months or so) which last half a day. Also, I donít flake out half way through the day like I used to. So I think that the diet has been a great success. If you want a well respected opinion on this type of diet you might find the Dr Schulze sections on this site interesting.
I do have some gallstone problems but I believe these stones were formed many years ago when I had a very high dairy diet. (My doctor agrees.) Interesting thing though. Many people on this site report lots of green cholesterol stones when they flush. I have never had these but have just god rid of what appear to be old hard stones. I think that maybe this is because I don't eat any cholesterol. (We don't need to eat it we make our own.)
As for the pain you have in your liver. Make sure you have it checked out first just to make sure. Then read this site thoroughly and do what feels best for your body.
Funny thing about meds... they typically mask awareness. Pain is usually the first to get masked.
You are right about psych meds -- they are pretty poisonous. It's your liver's job to break down poisons. It's probably in pain just to make up for all the pain you didn't feel over the last seventeen years. (My completely amateurish opinion.) As you fast, your body is beginning to flush out these toxins from places where they've been concealed (i.e. fat stores), and they will make you feel like crap (never mind the pain). That kinda goes with the territory when detoxing. Nothing to it but to do it.
You could probably benefit from liver flushing. From the sound of it, you're long overdue for a few flushes. (Back pain -- especially around the shoulder blade, goes hand in hand with liver and gall bladder issues, BTW.) Have you ever been checked for gallstones? You might actually be having a gall bladder attack. Try drinking some Epsom Salt (say, 1 T in 1 cup of water or fresh [granny smith] apple juice) and see if your pain subsides. If so, repeat periodically as needed. (Don't do this for extended periods of time, however. Read the Epsom Salt label for details.)
You might also want to do a castor oil pack -- get some cloth, soak in castor oil (or pour some castor oil into it or on it), place the cloth over your liver area, put something soakproof over it, like cellophone, and then put a heating pad over that and sit for an hour. Repeat as needed.
Also, just in general, liver is helped by fresh radish juice, wormwood, sage, dandelion, goldenseal, and milk thistle (especially). Consider getting these into your diet somehow. (Since you're juice fasting, get some fresh radish in there.)

I suffer from depression and high anxiety! Ive take prozac zoloft and paxil they all were good for a few months then they would do a swith on me. Iwould feel numb I didn't care about anything and nohting bothered me. I hated that feeling. Then sometimes they would acctually make have fits of anger and rage especially going off them!
Drugs suck! I know they are nessisary sometimes but now i try to get natural solutions.
Herbs like 5-htp (the best!)and kava kava, st johns wort (witch did nothing for me personally but they say helps. there are others you must investagate. 5-htp is great! My friends mom has severe depression and delusions and other problems and she take five 5-htp a day and it works good for her.
