I'm a healthy, athletic (fit), low-stressed 45 YO male.
I have no difficulty getting and maintaining an erection
for foreplay and sex, but lately I seem to be taking a ONE
HELLUVA LONG TIME to come to the point of climax. I literally
wear myself out trying to get to that point... and it's
Recently, to combat a herpes outbreak, I had been taking
A LOT of Lysine (probably at least 2000mg/day for the last
8 days or so). I know Lysine counteracts the effects of
L-Arginine.... could this be the reason???
From one of the other posts, I gathered some interesting
info on naturals/herbals (listed below), but they seem
to all reference "increased energy", "stamina", "enjoyment",
"performance", battling "erectile dysfunction", etc.
I just want to come (and not wear away her lining).
Any insight on a good natural/herbal is GREATLY appreciated!
Maca (lepidium meyenii) - is a plant grown in Peru that produces a radish-like root that is responsible for its sex-enhancing ability. In studies,
subjects given maca experienced greater sexual satisfaction, increased energy, and stamina. This plant has long been used to restore sexual vitality,
enjoyment and performance.
L-Arginine - is an crystalline, free-form amino acid that has been show to improve erections, while at the same time benefiting cardiac blood vessel reactivity. It is also an important factor in muscle metabolism and aids in transportation, storage and disposal of nitrogen throughout the body.
Oatstraw (avena sativa) - this restorative herb assists in renewing and strengthening the vitality of the nervous system as well as restoring elasticity to veins and improving circulatory functions. Other noted benefits of Oatstraw are increased balance, memory, sensitivity to pleasant stimuli, and improved coordination.
Ginseng blend (Siberian, American, Korean) - has long been used traditionally as a
stimulant to deliver extra energy. It is also well know for its aphrodisiac effects. This herb has been demonstrated to combat impotence, infertility
and premature ejaculation. In addition it also normalizes blood pressure while revitalizing the body and promoting the growth of nerve tissue.
Additionally, Ginseng contains the key ingredient ginsenoside, which alters the blood flow to the brain and penis it also increases sperm production.
Catuaba (bark extract, 4:1) - native to brazil and parts of the Amazon, catuaba is a central nervous system stimulant commonly used throughout the
world for treating sexual impotence, exhaustion and fatigue.
Muira Pauma (ptychopetalum olacoides) - the root of this shrub, native to Brazil, has been proven in a sexology study in Paris, France to increases libido as well as helps patients with erectile dysfunction (ED). In fact, preliminary
research suggests that Muira Pauma is one of the best botanical remedies for erectile dysfunction and increased blood flow to the penis.
Nettle leaf (urtica dioica) - has a long documented history from ancient Greece to present. The polysaccharides (complex sugars) and lectins (large protein-sugar molecules are the active constituents of this plant. They directly affect the hormones and proteins that support sex hormones (such as testosterone and estrogen) within the body. This has been confirmed in double blind studies.
Orchid Substance - has long been known to create an aphrodisiac effect in both men and women. This herb is used for its strong qualities that promote and encourage sexual motivation. The increase in libido due to consuming this plant is
unlike any other.
Tribulus (tribulus terrestris) - this Indian herb restores and improves libido, it also prolongs the duration of an erection. It is very popular for its dominate role in supporting the reproductive functions of men. Additionally, it increases anabolic hormones and testosterone to optimum levels as well as increasing sex drive.
Cayenne (capsicum frutescens) - has been used in India for decades for its powerful stimulant effects. Additionally, this plant helps to dilate blood vessels, thus leading to harder more attainable erections. This plant is another must for any
man wanting to maximize his sexual performance.
Zinc Oxide - an essential component of more than 300 enzymes needed to maintain fertility and normal testosterone levels in adult men. It also is known to have beneficial effects on cardiac blood vessel reactivity.

Sarsaparilla (smilax officinalis) - is a vine native to tropical America and
the West Indies. The roots are unearthed and harvested throughout the year and are used to aid in testosterone activity in the body.
Boron (citrate) - this mineral is vital for proper male nutrition as well as maintaining proper blood levels of estradiol, which is a precursor of estrogen.
Estrogen is a sex hormone that must be regulated to insure maximum male sexual performance.
Pumpkin (cucurbita pepo) - has been scientifically proven to have positive effects on one's health. Pumpkin seed promotes male potency, is an effective prevention of heart and circulatory diseases, and
lowers cholesterol levels.
Licorice (glycyrrhizzin glabra) - this powdered root is useful in pill-making because of its absorbent qualities, being used to impart stiffness to pill masses and increase proper absorption.
One thing that isn't mentioned is Saw Palmetto. You can purchase it in almost any health food store in capsule form. (It tastes horrible so you wouldn't want it in any other form) It is a great tonic not only for the prostate but for general male sexuality.
As all men get older, they do not perform as they used to. Sex is with much less frequency, less quantity produced and with much more work and it becomes understandibly, very frustrating.
You mentioned foreplay and that is so important to do. Stimulation to your penis first almost to orgasm once or twice prior to penetration will really help. Reducing the frequency of sex helps too which allows more "recovery" time. Accepting and adjusting to the fact that 45 is not 20, and not much will change that, is also important.
It could be, as you say, the Lysine or how your body reacts to it. Maybe there is another herpes medicine that might help you better.
I was having the same problem (I'm 45, too). 10 days ago I started taking Leopin 5. that's the japanese name. It's marketed in the U.s. under a different name. It's Korean ginseng and aged garlic axtract. I noticed a bit of a rise (no pun intended but it's appropriate) in my erections. Just a few days ago I started taking Maca and oh mygod, there is no doubt--my erections are much better and ejaculating easier. I ordered from this company: http://www.peruvian-maca.com/
good luck. At the same time I started taking St. John's Wort, a B1 and 12, E, c and an amino acid mix.
Try massaging the inside of your heel, and the area right under the knuckle of the ankle. You shouldmust feel a tngling point there, for results.
You may also want to massage the area of the tendon of Achilles, and the exact middle of your big toe.
In the middle of both feet is a point named the Plexus Solar, which may help also.
For a chart, and info take a look at http://healinhands.org , our non profit webpage (see explanatio of the map of the feet), and contact us, if need be.

One way (but strickly depending on your physical state (strong heart, good lungs, blood circulation splendid to normal), which from what you write is very good) is:
Holding your breath .. but holding your breath .. h o l d i n g your breath.
To succeed: Take three slow, deep breaths (in-out is one), and then h o l d i n g your breath.
This way you must succeed, after the normal foreplay, thus taking into consideration that normally our lady partner needs more time than we, men to get into the mood for that soft, sweet inner explosion.

I would also suggest the Maca. I am not a man so I can not be for sure how it would work with a man, but as a woman I took it to improve my sex drive and it really helped. I had lost interest in sex for a while. I tried Maca and my desire can back. It is suppose to be very effective for men as well.
This has nothing to do with the subject at hand, but to you, or anyone else, for that matter, that are taking individual amino acid supplements, there is the opinion by some that doing so can really cause some major disruptions to the system. My doc supports nutritional supplements, far more than most, but he highly recommends not taking INDIVIDUAL aminos unless the body is in an absolute crisis state- and for good reason, based on what I've read. Whether or not something like this would ever be a player in your case, I don't know.
