Hi. I'm a little confused, and I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've been doing a lot of reading about Amalgam removal and chelation, and many places I've read that you should detox/chelate before, during and after removal. However many places I've also read that you should wait to chelate/detox only until after your Amalgams have been removed because if you chelate while you still have Amalgams in your mouth, then all you are doing is redistributing the mercury, and pulling the mercury from within your fillings into your body. Which way is the way to go? Chelate before, during and after? Or just after?
I started chelating before I started my Amalgam removal (half way done), and I felt absolutely horrible. I was not able to function. I stopped chelating, and just continued with vitamins/herbs to prep myself for the removal. I had one quadrant removed a few days ago, and felt fine the next couple of days, and then yesterday I had the second quadrant removed, and I'm really not feeling too great today. Should I be chelating or not? As I mentioned above, many say not to chelate until all fillings are removed. I am extremely confused, and I do not want to harm myself. By the way, I am seeing a holistic dentist who does follow all the right protocols. I am scheduled next week for two more visits to get the third and fourth quadrants removed. I just want to know whether I should be chelating or not, or if I should wait until they're all removed. Please help!!!!
Wait ten months for your bodily mercury to decrease otherwise you will be moving it into your brain which is very bad. It might be (and this is theory), good to take some dmsa every 4 hours for three days staring 3 days after Amalgam removal. But whether this does more harm than good is really untested. The body will chelate the mercury out naturally. Read my posts.
I don't understand. You're saying to wait 10 monthss before chelating??? Everywhere I read it says to chelate after removal. I read that I would feel bad, but that just means that it's the mercury leaving my body. Can someone please help? Everyone seems to have a different opinion. What do I do??????????/
The body has been designed by nature to naturally remove toxic substances. If the body couldn't we would all be dead. IF you wait ten months the body will remove most of the body mercury on its own. The brain mercury takes longer to remove. The only "chelator" to cross the Blood Brain Barrier is ALA which you can take starting about 3 months after Amalgam removal according to A.C.Hall,an expert,but if it makes you feel bad stop taking it. If taking something is making you feel bad it is because you are moving mercury into your brain where it will be much harder to remove. Not everyone says to chelate right after removal. Hal Huggins ,the expert , says not to overaccelerate chelation,. DMSA will cost you 100 dollars for 45 capsules , 250mg,a two months supply,and at best will only speed up the process according to AC HALL by about 13 percent. Consider yourself lucky to get this advice.
i just want to thank you sooo much for that piece of info. i was feeling so down about this whole chelation thing. i had the last of my Amalgams removed in july. since then it's been a rollercoaster for me. i can't chelate, my body just can't handle it, but to know that naturally it will happen over time makes me happy and hopeful that i'm on my way to a healthier life. thanks rokybird.
There seems to be a wide range of interpretation and use of the words like "chelate" and "detox", so I'll throw in my two cents - they are not one and the same.
Detoxing as I understand it, means taking measures to flush out whatever toxins are already loosely floating around in the body IE> already mobilized; "whatever" may be any from the range of toxins we all are commonly exposed to by polluted water, polluted food, polluted air and polluted medical treatment like dental fillings, vaccinations and prescription drugs, to include mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and alluminium just to list some of the common pollutants. Flushing the liver, flushing the bowells, and flushing the kidney/bladder will help to expel IE> detox, these freely-floating toxins from the body.
Chelation, on the other hand, is taking the situation to the next level, so to speak, with measures to draw toxins out of their hiding places within the body, such as within tissues, within cell-structure, within bone, teeth, and organs like brain, lungs, heart, kidney, liver, etc. In other words, aside from those toxins freely floating around in the body, there are also toxins that may have once been freely floating around but eventually found places to hide - becmong tightly embedded into the fabric - literally, of our body. This is the opposite situation from those toxins loosly floating around in the body. The process of chelation is two-fold: mobilization; binding. The former stirs things up so to speak, in an effort to shake loose these tightly bound toxins from their hiding places, the latter provides an ingredient to latch onto them before they can find another hiding place to settle. Once the binding agent binds to a loosley floating molecule of toxin, then it is a matter of the body properly disposing of it, via the various disposal system like intestines, lymph, urnine, sweating and breathing (exhaling).
The best I can tell, while one still has Amalgams in their mouth, it is not time to chelate because these remaining amalgams, even one, represent such a massive amount of mercury that the attempt to chelate will stir up more free mercury than what can practically be bound and excreted, so this will leave a lot of mercury freely floating around to become redistributed to some other hidign place. The idea on waiting to chelate is another way of sayign "don't shake things up yet and move the mercury to some other places, leave it where it is, wherever that may be, for now. Meantime, it's okay to detox, such as with flushing, and with increasing one's daily intake of those vitamins/supplements/nutrients that are good scavengers of free radicals. The general idea is that detoxing is to revitalize the natural detoxing ability of the various internal systems of the body that go on (or try to) 24/7. This is also the time to begin improving one's daily water intake; this aspect can't be over stressed since intake of water is simple and easy way to help the body flush itself. The kinds of Flushing often referred to in these forum posts is intended a sa method for mass-dumping (detoxing) toxins from the body on a much larger scale than the natural flushign from good water intake. There are also steps one can take to provide beneficial mini-dumping effects; taking specific vitamins and supplements, or taking hot soaking baths. Vitamin C has numerous benefits, to include a detoxing aspect. I believe the fact that I've been followign Pauling's daily mega-dose regimen for nearly twenty years is a big reason why I otherwise have not already experienced more significant effects from having carried around 14 amalams in my head for 30-plus years. My dentist advised me to also add Selenium supplementation, especially for those days after having a quadrant of Amalgams removed; it's what he takes each day that he's spent bending over a person taking out their fillings (and having their vapors drift into the air he breathes).
Once all the amalgams have been removed, then it's time to kick it up a notch with one's detoxing efforts. If you've done your homework and prepared the body well for this step - like by having done various flushes while the amalgams were still beign taken out, improved your diet, generally taking better care of yourself, then you've definitely improved your general condition of health, which means you've given yourself a better chance to suceed with the chelation stage. I'm still learning but from what I can tell, chelation is not a quick process, it may/could take years to gradually shake loose all the very deeply embedded of toxins on one's body, especially mercury.

I know it's a very tough and trying time, after having Amalgams removed.
I am in much the same boat as you after I, in recent times (3 months ago.)
had my five 21 year old fillings replaced.
I actually took DMSA just before I had mine replaced as I read that doing this may prevent becoming Mercury Poisoned?
I must say I did become Mercury Poisoned even with the dentist using a rubber dam, the DMSA actually in my case only stirred up the Mercury, and if I had it over would never do that again!
I had a severe reaction 2 days after removal, it happened just after I opened up a beer in the evening. To this day I don't know why having the beer bought it on but it was a sure warning sign that my system was being pushed to far!
I honestly felt like I would die that night and it wasn't nice.
So I stayed in hospital that night but I was still very sick and feverish for weeks after. I have only just 2 and a half months later started feeling a bit better.
I have little advice for you anyway please don't take any DMSA before you go to dentist to have any more out, also in the meantime take a liver support supplement (like artichoke extract.) this has helped me heaps.
Also what has helped me alot is Whey Protein powder, Protein is your defence against mercury make sure you give this a try. When I was Mercury poisoned I was told to try this and I have never since looked back.
Lastly I have had great sucess with PCA-Rx oral chelation spray avaliable online at http://www.awakennutrition.com , this is supposed to be far better than DMSA and has virtually no side effects. Also Dr Wallach colloidal minerals taken with PCA-rx will aid Chelation with minimal side effects.
So here goes my advice which helped me:
Whey Protien Powder take three scoops each day with milk or juice.
PCA-rx Four sprays under tongue in the morning.
DR Wallach colloidal minerals take 10 ml a day.
A fibre supplement or fibre drink or cereal for breakfast.
3-4 cups of coffee a day will help move the bowels to excrete mercury fast.
Try Flaxseed oil 1 tablespoon a day, for Omega 3 to protect the brain.
It's only been a month since iv'e used the above formula and I must say I really can't say I have mercury poisoning now, this is how quick it has helped me!
I've gone from nearly croaking it to feeling A ok.
It's now a pleasure to brush my teeth knowing I have nice healthy white composite fillings.
Waiting 10 months after removal for mercury levels to decline natually is neither good nor bad, you can choose to do this if you want but I wouldn't. Pca-rx is the latest technolgy in mercury chelation and will safley remove mercury to make you feel better sooner after removal.
You can start the above formula as soon a your last Amalgam is out.
