A friend of mine is trying out raw garlic and only takes one a day, but now she has loose stools (is that good?) and has stomach pains. I remember reading that raw garlic and stomach pains is attributed to having some kind of stomach disorder (leaky gut syndrome??), but I don't remember. Please help!
Interesting! Do you mean one CLOVE a day or an entire head of garlic? Has she never eaten garlic before???
If she didn't eat garlic before now, and is just now eating it raw, then it's a reaction from her microbes. And that could be okay.
If she's been eating garlic all her life and jsut started using it as a medication, then she's probably allergic to it.
It's tough to say, but leaky gut rarely has cramps or other severely physical manifestations. You usually know you have leaky gut because you feel bad all over, brain fog, fatigue, not cramps usually, at least, I didn't get many.
One clove won't do a whole heck of a lot, and after a week or two she should switch to trying to replace the friendly microbes by taking live acidophilus and Primal Defense. That will do her a WORLD of good! :)
OK that’s an exaggeration!!!
What’s true is that only a small amount of daily garlic (half to one clove) is needed to lower bad cholesterol and raise “good” cholesterol. Garlic increases bile acid excretion. Garlic has antiviral properties; among viruses sensitive to it are cold, herpes simplex and flu. Garlic is a bactericide & fungicide; it strongly inhibits Candida and E. Coli. Garlic diminishes hypertension blood pressure and dilates restricted blood vessels. There is strong evidence – much research ongoing – that garlic may prevent stomach cancer. I could go on.
What is especially interesting is that all those reported effects come from mainstream medicine reports, so garlic is something that everyone agrees on. I am a huge garlic fan. I started taking it daily after my cholesterol shot up and, within 2 months, it was better than ever!
What sort of pain does your friend have? Is it a burning pain? Raw garlic can be irritating to the stomach lining. I take it by juicing it with something else; otherwise I get burning pain and acid reflux due to a hiatus hernia. She could take it in powder, capsule or pill form, but you have to be careful that it has been properly processed. I don’t know the US system, but what you need is a product that a doctor would prescribe, that way you know the active ingredients wont have been destroyed.
Incidentally, the breath and skin smells you get from taking raw garlic vanish after you’ve been on it for a couple of weeks.
