Hello, I have Candida and hypothyroidism and have been experiencing an intense itching/burning sensation in my scalp and significant hair loss in that area. I have been to numerous doctors, who either prescribe harsh shampoos or cortisone injections that do not help. I'm going back to my doctor soon to get my thyroid medication adjusted, but want to know if anyone else has this problem and whether my hair will grow back. There are no sores or redness or bumps or anything where this problem exists. I am devastated. Just started ThreeLac and Candida diet. Please respond. Thanks.
It might be die-off due to Threelac, try reducing threelac intakes. This treatment is all but a race. With any supplement you take, learn to start taking 1/10 of the dose and SLOWLY increase to the point where you get die off, then reduce a bit.
This being said there are quite few issues involve in your post.
1- there is a FANTASTIC shampoo on the market: Nizoral, it kills candida. It is normal to have candida on your scalp.... I mean it is a standard issue we all share.
2- I use Nizoral, but if - like you - I also had thyroid issues, I would use coconut oil - as a supplement (use it to cook or else on your pancakes: basically like you would use butter) and also on your skin. Put the coconut oil all over your scalp and but a shower cap on for 15 min. to half an hour before you wash your hair (with any shampoo.... like Nizoral, coconut oil is an antifungal). This will help a great deal.
Thanks, Jhan. The burning/itching/hair loss started about a year ago. I just started ThreeLac only a week ago. I will try Nizoral shampoo. Has it worked for you? Was it too harsh?? I was worried about Nioral because of my hair type--AA female. But, I just read on their site that it is fine for black hair. I will also try the other supplements and minerals. I also just started using Coconut oil in just about everything. So, hopefully, this will help, too. Thanks for caring enough to post. I appreciate it.
Other than one harsh shampoo I got from the doctor that made my situation worse, I have not used any others because I have black hair and these types of shampoos are not "kind" to us. I will check out Neem today when I go to Whole Foods. Thanks a bunch. Really appreciate it.
When I eliminated all Sugar / starch from my diet, I also experienced hair loss, and when I started taking antifungals (coconut oil mostly), I got dandruff and my scalp started itching a lot. I've never before in my life had any dandruff, so I think it's a die-off. Whell, I hope. :)
I didn't want to use any medicated shampoos, but I found some herbal tincture at my local Whole Foods. Can't tell you the name at the moment... It has a nice fresh smell, you massage the scalp with it and then leave it overnight or wash an hour later, it helps with the itching, and it helps with the amount of dandruff too.
Might want to consider asking about the merits of a test for Toxoplasmosa Gondi infection? I'm an amateur, no medical advise here.
If not, the symptoms could be related to any number of vitamin or mineral deficiencies/toxicities. Biotin, Riboflavin, and A are probably the chief suspects, but who's to know, and whether or not the problem would be toxicity or deficieny in one or two of those cases.
Consider Alopeecia Areata, and if so, study what you can about adrenal insufficiency. If they've already found your thyroid problem, you could well have a polyglandular deficiency situation at work, too.
Hi,My husband also has the intense burning and itching scalp, he to is also loosing hair. He said it has been the most painful thing he has ever had in his life. He has been to several dermatologists and they too give him cortizone and shampoos but nothing has helped. He a has reconstructed ankle, ruptured disks in his neck and back but there is nothing compared to the pain that his head gives him. He can wash his head in the morning and he said it feels like someone has rubbed his head raw and put gasoline on it causing severe burning and hair loss. Please let me know if you have found your problem, and I would also like to know haow yours usually starts.
severe burning scalp
WOW. Me and another women I met through the internet are also suffering from thsi horrendous gasoline scalp burning pain. We want answers! Nobody can help us. If you found an answer for your husband please let me know?
I have dealt with this pain for 8 months now. I have given birth to three children one the pain meds did not take. I would rather redo all three of those births VS this scalp pain. It was not even close to this pain in the sense birth and labor pains are gone in a day. Not this. It lingers and robs me of my life.
I hear steroids are the route and I will self medicate in due time if nobody can help. 6 doctors and specialist and no answers!!
There must be an issue that can be fixed or regulated
Please anyone suffering from this email me so we can try and find the answers together.
I have this feeling. Usually after I eat trigger foods or if my scalp is sweating. I started losing my hair at the beginning of 14 years old and I'm now 20 and I still have it. I have been doing every test imaginable for curing this and I think candida is the cause.
Try those foods and see how you feel. I've spent probably around 2000 dollars in vitamins, medications, doctor visits, blood samples, and I can probably save you a lot of time. If any of those examples listed are the case please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can work together to beat this.
Hi lorri26 - You have described exactly what I am going through. Your husband's symptoms are very real and so painful. Sometimes I don't think I can take another minute of this. Something strange you mentioned - he has ruptured disks in his neck. I have severe problems in my neck also and am wondering if this is where it stems from. Now I am also suspecting yeast as the cause. I wish you and your husband success in finding out the cause and cure. The suffering is unbelievable!!! I do know that stopping all vitamin supplements have helped me - I'm not a doctor and won't recommend, just explaining what worked for me. I was told that flare ups occur until finally the pains will stop after stopping all vitamins, but it takes time. All the best to you !!!
I, too, am AA Female with what seems to be the same problem. I have intense burning and itching scalp (mainly in the back but all over) so badly it brings me to tears almost everyday. My troubles first began in 2000 when my entire head of shoulder-length hair fell out within 3 months. The AA Dermatologist diagnosed the problem as: TELOGIUM EFFLUVIUM and gave me a topical steroid called Clobetasol to stop the inflammation. It's a 2-week treatment that takes that amount of time before the burning begins to subside but eventually it goes away. The problem is it recurs every few months (6-8 months) I'm sure, due to high stress levels. I've since relocated and my current dermatologist has no idea what is causing this inflammation (I requested for the clobetasol after she administered cortizone shots then suggested I get a biopsy of my scalp). I typically fast 2x a year and had hoped the internal cleansing and juice fasting would purge any toxins but there's been no change in the condition. I use only natural products on my scalp including castile soap, jason organic shampoo, natural hair oil and scalp grease, even pure virgin olive oil and aloe vera plant rubbed directly into my scalp (temporary relief). At this point, I'm done. I don't know what else to do. I truly wish to receive email from anyone who wants to discuss this further and share their experiences and outcomes. Thanks, needscalpcure.
Hi! Here is a couple of suggestions you may want to try for the intense burning: first of all, it would be beneficial to make sure the foundations are right: your colon & your liver. The BEST Colon Cleanse i have found, was dr. Shulze's. Formula 1 and Formula 2. (I have tried many other things and products, but never had the results i wanted, until i used Dr. Shultze's products). The key is to use it like instructed, and to make sure you use the formula 2, 5 - 6 times a day, and not 2 - 3 times a day at a greater dossage. The key is it needs to be in your colon all the time. You will be shocked and amazed what comes out! And if you do it right, it is guaranteed that the whole toxic waste lining that we all have due to years of eating things that God never intended for us to eat, will come out. If you want to know why is is so vitally important that this happens, please buy Dr. N. Walker's book: "Colon health" it is an amazing, easy to read book, that will change your LIFE!
Secondly, your liver is the second thing that needs adressing. Curezone has been kind enough to publish on this site, everything you need to know, about liver cleansing (liver flush recipes and all!) Also on the site: read up on oil pulling. It cant harm!
For immediate relieve for your sculp, i agree with one of the previous writers. Avoid any candida encouraging food, like sugar, gluten (wheat etc. ESPECIALLY in it's refined form), dairy, tomatoes, potatoes, salt and salty foods, like Marmite, alchol and for a couple of weeks, even fruit.
Also avoid heat. That is physical heat... Dress cool and comfortable try not to get hot and sweaty. Avoid hot situations, meaning anything that will cause you stress. Avoid purgent (hot) spices like chillies, and as far as you can, even hot (physical) foods, like stews, soups, hot drinks etc. Opt instead to eat more salads, and vegetable juices, cold water and cooled herbal teas.
Try relieving the burning by lying down with your head in a shallow dish with cold water... As cold as you can handle. It would be beneficial to add a cup of camomile tea (that has been cooled down) to the water. Do this as often as you want, for as long as you want.
Also try applying: Aloe vera gel or coconut oil mixed with lavender essential oil (make sure it is real essential oil)in a mixing ratio of 10 - 50% lavender oil.
Dont use harsh normal shampoo's. Try to get something natural from a health store that doesnt contain: Sodium Laurel Sulphate, as this will agrivate your sculp for sure!
To try and treat the candida on the scalp, you can try tea tree oil mixed with coconut oil. You can try making a cream (with an aqueous cream base mixed with Neem Oil, Turmeric and a few drops of Rose oil (essential oil). Also try plain yogurt, as the good bacteria will fight the candida, whist the milk will sooth your sculp.
Herbalteas that will help (just drink them cooled down)will be Chamomile and lavender, as well as any of the following, available from healthstores in tablet/tea form: yarrow, feverfew, nettle, baikal skullcap, lemonbalm, ashwagandha, guduchi, amalaki, schisandra, licorice, shitake and reishi mushrooms. Gingseng will improve stress tollerance. Herbs that will support you liver's'detoxifying work... Helping to clear your sculp is: burdock, red clover, cleavers, nettle, neem, dandelion, globe artichoke, Aloe vera and most important: Milk thistle.
Internally make sure you get enough Omega 3's,and evening primrose oil or borage seed oil for the GLA's' and drink A LOT of probiotics a day. Excessively! If at all possible try to make your own Sauerkraut or other naturally fermented vegetables (recipes on the internet... Just make sure there is no vingegar or boiling called for in the recipe) and the easiest is to just put it in normall glass jars. Some people cure themselves totally from candida within a month, by eating loads of sauerkraut (which is yummy in anycase) everyday (a bottle on average)
And last, but not least... Take your burdens to the feet of Jesus. He is able to heal and restore you, and give you true joy and peace!
Hello - I can sympathize with you. I experienced a very stressful event about 1 1/2 years ago. About 3 months later I was losing hair. I have spent this 1 1/2 years looking for answers. I have approached it from a nutritional standpoint and that has worked well. I have had issues with candida overgrowth all my adult life, but did not make the connection at this time. It is just recently that I have made the connection when I read posts about 'burning' and 'itching' of the scalp and candidiasis. I also needed thyroid replacement very badly at this time. I had a low TSH so no traditional doctor would prescribe T-3 for me. I am not taking BHRT natural, plant derived T-3 and it has worked extremely well for me. My hair is back to shiny and healthy. The T-3 has not made my hair thicker though. I am now addressing the overgrowth of candida and expect this is the last piece of the puzzle. If you wish to take a natural thyroid supplement not derived from animals, then check out compounded T-3 which is NOT Cytomel. I am very sensitive to drugs and this (not a drug) has been wonderful for me and no side effects.
To summarize, it is my strong belief that candida overgrowth is causing your burning, itching and hair loss.
You are the first person who has confirmed my suspitions all along. I have severe burning of the scalp, my hair is falling out badly right now and no one seems to know what is causing the problem. I've been to doctors and they tell me to learn to live with it. Their exact words. My last bout of burning was the worst ever with larges chunks of hair falling out all over my head. I don't think I can take another day of this. I notice that I have low tolerance to vitamins and seem to be getting very allergic to many things. I have a band of tightness at the back of my hairline near the neck and a feeling of something creeping under my skin in the same area. The pains started off at the front of my head and now are covering my entire scalp with hair fallout everywhere. I have a history of yeast infections and candida overgrowth but never connected the two. It's wonderful to find someone who understands!!!!!
I too have Burning Scalp Syndrome and it has ruined my life. It started out as small, circular burning pain just under my scalp at the bangs area of my head. My hair is falling out. I have had this for a few years now and at one time the pains stopped and my hair began to grow back in, but now it is worse than ever. I had no rashes or itching at first but now the burning increased severely to all over my head and my hair is falling out more than ever and now have heavy rashes with extreme itching. I have developed a lot of allergies as well in the last month or so. The pain is excruciating and I don't know how much longer I can take this. Not one doctor has been able to help me or even acknowledge they know about what is happening. I've been to specialists and now will be going for a biopsy in June. I'm beginning to suspect its yeast in my body but I'm not really sure. I've been posting in another forum called Topix under " Has anyone else suffered from Burning Scalp Syndrome? " and on the advise of a chiropractor who posts in this forum, I have stopped taking all vitamin supplements and this has helped greatly. He told me not to expect this to heal quickly but in time it will get better with possible relapses and then eventually stop altogether. I'm hoping someone here will know more about this. My doctors don't, I don't and no one seems to know what this is. Please help!!!!!
Hello, I am looking for the date/year this post was started so that I'm not responding to an old topic.
I've found a little relief using some products that are widely available. I haven't experienced total relief, but some is better than none, and my hair is beginning to grow back slowly. Once again slowly is better than not at all.
Note: For our hair it is recommended not to use the same oil type after 2-3 days, our hair responds if we use olive 2-3 days, then grapeseed, then coconut, and etc.
Ok African Pride brand braid spray (Olive Miracle) directly to the affected area of the scalp as needed helped me, but seems over time not to stop the itch anymore.
Follicle healer pomade(NOT cream).
The Monistat external cream (yes really) helped for awhile
and the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus (contains neem oil) seems to work well on that part of my scalp. If I had any sense I'd buy the black soap one as well and mix them together (lack of funds right now)
and believe it or not Neutralizing Shampoo has helped though I have not chemically treated my hair since 1998! After two uses it seems that my hair is growing back stronger. Hope this helps!
