Hello, I have Candida and hypothyroidism and have been experiencing an intense itching/burning sensation in my scalp and significant hair loss in that area. I have been to numerous doctors, who either prescribe harsh shampoos or cortisone injections that do not help. I'm going back to my doctor soon to get my thyroid medication adjusted, but want to know if anyone else has this problem and whether my hair will grow back. There are no sores or redness or bumps or anything where this problem exists. I am devastated. Just started ThreeLac and Candida diet. Please respond. Thanks.
It might be die-off due to Threelac, try reducing threelac intakes. This treatment is all but a race. With any supplement you take, learn to start taking 1/10 of the dose and SLOWLY increase to the point where you get die off, then reduce a bit.
This being said there are quite few issues involve in your post.
1- there is a FANTASTIC shampoo on the market: Nizoral, it kills candida. It is normal to have candida on your scalp.... I mean it is a standard issue we all share.
2- I use Nizoral, but if - like you - I also had thyroid issues, I would use coconut oil - as a supplement (use it to cook or else on your pancakes: basically like you would use butter) and also on your skin. Put the coconut oil all over your scalp and but a shower cap on for 15 min. to half an hour before you wash your hair (with any shampoo.... like Nizoral, coconut oil is an antifungal). This will help a great deal.
Thanks, Jhan. The burning/itching/hair loss started about a year ago. I just started ThreeLac only a week ago. I will try Nizoral shampoo. Has it worked for you? Was it too harsh?? I was worried about Nioral because of my hair type--AA female. But, I just read on their site that it is fine for black hair. I will also try the other supplements and minerals. I also just started using Coconut oil in just about everything. So, hopefully, this will help, too. Thanks for caring enough to post. I appreciate it.
Other than one harsh shampoo I got from the doctor that made my situation worse, I have not used any others because I have black hair and these types of shampoos are not "kind" to us. I will check out Neem today when I go to Whole Foods. Thanks a bunch. Really appreciate it.
When I eliminated all Sugar / starch from my diet, I also experienced hair loss, and when I started taking antifungals (coconut oil mostly), I got dandruff and my scalp started itching a lot. I've never before in my life had any dandruff, so I think it's a die-off. Whell, I hope. :)
I didn't want to use any medicated shampoos, but I found some herbal tincture at my local Whole Foods. Can't tell you the name at the moment... It has a nice fresh smell, you massage the scalp with it and then leave it overnight or wash an hour later, it helps with the itching, and it helps with the amount of dandruff too.
