I've started drinking pau d' arco tea and I've noticed my yeast symptoms have increase I actually got a yeast infection when I started taking it, and I'm itchy all over. I thought pau d'arco was suppose to kill candida not make it worst. Has anyone had this problem when taking pau d' arco.
I didn't get that symptom, but I felt kinda run down for a few days after starting it. I also had a bit of acne flare-up. Then I started seeing improvements in my thrush, and started having several mucus/candida covered stools. I've had a good bit of sinus drainage since I started taking it, and I have believed for some time that this is my hardest to reach area. I'm thinking of making a pau d'arco tea and using it in my neti pot, but I haven't worked up the nerve yet.
I hope your symptoms subside soon. I believe that the tea is a very potent form and produces quicker results especially for us digestively compromised candida sufferers. Try not to stop if you can handle it. I, too, believe that this is die-off as I know that PD does send everything running.
I bought some Pau D'arco bark, but it doesn't smell potent. It has only a slight smell. I've been making decoction tea out of it for about a week now, and I can't say I'm experiencing any of the die-off that many others are seeing. I purchased more Pau D'arco from mountainroseherbs, who always stocks fresh products.
Decoction is the way you should prepare D'arco. 1tbs per 1 cup of water. Heat to boil, add herb, lower to simmer. Simmer 10 to 20 minutes.
Everything that I have read suggests that you start off with 1-2 quarts for the first 3-4 days, then drop down to 16 oz. for the rest of the time(3-4weeks, longer if necessary). I have been doing the equivalent of that in tablets. I just don't have time to make the tea as often as I would need to to really combat the candida. This way, I can have a dose in the morning before work, then a dose right before I leave for home. Then, if I get a chance, I can have a cup of tea in the evening after dinner.
I use the Pau D'arco by Source Naturals. I'm on my second bottle of it, the two have slightly different colors, but they both smell pretty strong, almost sweet. I bought the tea by Altiva, and it is also very strong in scent and taste. I am hopeful that it will help to keep my upper digestive tract clean. Like you, I boil it for about 20 minutes, then I let it steep for another hour or two. Then I sweeten it with a little stevia, and drink. Good stuff.
Pau d'arco tea must be made very strong. Unlike leaf and stem teas, which are delicate and should be simmered, this is an inner tree bark. It should be BOILED for a very long time. Pau d'arco was my herb of choice for curing serious systemic candida a few years ago. I had symptoms for years and ate a very strict diet but pau d'arco was a turn around herb.
Again, this tea must be a strong brew to be effective. I have been researching the online info and I feel very dismayed to see "simmer for 5 - 15 minutes" This will not do it! I would generally place two handfulls of the shredded bark in my large soup kettle and boil it for at least an hour. Then turn off the heat and go to bed, letting it soak all night. I would turn on the heat again in the morning and simmer it for a long time. I would use this very stong concoction . . .mix it with water to taste. . . I very much like the taste of the strong brewed pau d'arco. I would not drink it bitter, but pleasantly strong. The advantage is that the medicines have been released into the cooked batch. . .then you may mix half and half or whatever tastes right to you.

I tried to write an in depth report on my 1990' research, Pua DíArco case histories, formulations, uses and my own 3 year experience using Pau DíArco as a preventative witch was half dosage. I was suddenly locked out and lost the post. The basics of the treatment is, only the inner bark is potent, and if I remember right, three heaping tablespoons, boiled ten minutes in one quart of water, and drink 4 cups a day. I made up one gallon at a time. I never had a negative reaction in three years, nor did it cure any thing. I did not have cancer then or now. Today I put two or three tablespoons in my coffee and tea water, bring it to a boil, make, a pint of tea or coffee and drink through out the day. I add water, boil the water everyday for a week, then start over. I add other herbals teas, one is horsetail to increase urine flow witch it does.
Another thing to be aware of is Pua DíArcoís popularity world wide is the unscrupulous are shipping tons of outer bark, saw dust, leaves, flowers maybe parts of other trees. Also making false claims to deter the unwary. I cannot claim any cures for I do not have a health problem to cure.
I take many vitamins, minerals, nutritional foods, herbals, spice and supplements. Never had a reaction except when I sometimes do not read the content label of something I buy at the supermarket, then find it has one more toxins.
I am 82, retired and have the time and desire to research. Latest has been small raw seeds and spice. The seeds have an incredible array of good non toxic nutrients. Spice is the same with an additional kick that many are also medicinal. Those with stomach problems would do well to research both. I have not found any with toxins or toxic reactions. One surprise was black pepper. I did not expect it to have any nutritional or health value. Boy, was I wrong.
