Hi everyone....I have been coming on this forum for a while now however never actually contributed anything. I decided it was time to reach out to fellow sufferers and share a little bit of my story. I suffer from bromhidrosis, i sweat terribly from my underarms and the smell is intense. This started when I was 17 years old. I always had irregular periods but the gyno said all my hormones were normal and put me on birth control. That made everything worse. That same year I went to a gastroentologist, I was having problems with trapped gas in my ribs and metallic taste in my mouth. Found out that I suffered from IBS and acid reflux. I got the IBS and acid reflux under control a bit....no more trapped gas in my ribs, or metallic taste in my mouth. However the sweat/ smelly armpits remained. its been 10 years....I am now 27 and still I have found no solution. Sorry to write so much...let me just list the things I've tried thus far....ionthophoresis, gels for bacteria, clindamycin, botox, electrolysis, certain dri, drysol, clinical strength antipersprants, natural deodorants, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, lemons, grapefruit seed extract, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, vodka, scrubbing armpits raw, dial antibacterial soap, neutrogena body wash, and I am sure there is more. Phew. That's alot. I have changed my eating habits, no more dairy, eggs, or gluten courtesy of a food allergy test I had done by my naturalist doctor. My naturalist thinks I am overstressed and my adrenals are out of whack. Did I mention that I wake up alot at night and don't sleep fully. When I sweat its like hot flashes just sporadic bursts of sweat that make me hot and jittery/nervous. He also thinks this all has to do with digestive issues. Currently on a regimen of vitamins...don't think I have space to list them. Thank you all for letting me write this novel of my story. Any thoughts or suggestions are always welcome.
you eat meat or fish? also how does your odour smell? because i have bromhidrosis and the diet works for me but when i eat red meats or sea food it gets a lot worse so if you eat meat or drink bad stuff like coke or something with a lot of caffeine or Sugar you should try to avoid those things, by the way im am not a native english speaker so sorry for the english
I don't eat meat much...maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Typically we latinos love meat but my family and I tend to stay away from it. We eat fish perhaps once or twice a month. I don't really notice a difference of smell when I eat fish. I do have a sweet tooth, always had. However my naturalist said I had to reduce my Sugar intake. I never really drank soda or coffee, those throw my body into a frenzy and I sweat more...so I stay away from caffeine or even chocolate which I used to love. I did notice that if I had too much sugar my body felt like an overheated engine part on the fritz. So no sugar anymore. I am now only trying to eat fruits, drink chlorofresh 3 times a day, chlorella tablets, vegetables, gluten free cereals and pastas, coconut milk, corn tortillas, turkey bacon, chicken, rice, beans, soups, salads, basically healthier choices. Just started this diet this month and its hard. Oh I have tried sage tea but didn't feel like it helped, so am now thinking of trying decaf green tea for its antioxidants. I drink water with lime on an empty stomach in the morning...good for the liver? Trying to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush out any gunk from my system. My armpits smell musty...kind of like skin that's been rubbed hard...sometimes its like old people smell when they sweat. No matter what soaps or baking soda washes or apple cider vinegar ( which by the way irritate the hell out of my pits), i use when I get out the shower my armpits still smell musty. I recently had a second round of electrolysis which I felt made the odor worse. By the way your english was pretty good...thank you for reaching out to me.
By the way I forgot to mention what vitamins/ supplements I'm taking. They are magnesium citrate 200mg (2 x's a day), zinc 50 mg (1 x a day), adrenotone (2x's a day), mineral supreme (3 x's a day), Digestmore (3x's a day) and vitamin c 500mg (2x's a day).
i dont think your bromhidrosis is because you need minerals, so i dont think its a problem if you take those suplements out, you have never tried vitamin e? thats the vitamin for your skin thats the only vitamine that could help, also have you never used probiotics? one guy took a lot of these and the rest of the day he felt sick but in the next day he didnt have smell, but he took a large dose of those, also you have bad breath?
But no matter what happens you have my support i know how it feels to be in that situation, and i think it was harder for me because here in mexico its hot always so get an idea of me in the summer, buena suerte
Hi thirdyear, yes I am sure its my underarms. I can smell them right away as soon as I get out the shower...I've sniffed other parts of my body and it smells like soap. I've asked my mother and sister and both have conceded that my underarms are the culprit even though from time to time I have my sister perform a "sniff" test on my underarms and she says they smell alright at first....but when I have her check again within an hour or two after the sweating she says they smell nasty. Can I ask how long you have been suffering from this as well? Have you ever had a day or days where you were odor free? I so far have not had 1. I am praying for us all.
Anon101 I've never tried vitamin E, I will look into that. I've tried probiotics in the past but didn't feel or smell a change. Now that I can't have dairy, I'm a little hesitant to try It. However there might be a dairy free type that I could look into. Thank you for your input. I live in FL and know about heat so I feel your pain about the constant sweating. I hope you find your answers as well.
