My brother just took one round of antibiotics after having a root canal done and is having intestinal problems weeks after taking them. Mercola just did a article on antibiotics and was saying that one or two strong courses of antibiotics can kill up to 30% of your friendly bacteria. That is alarming! I would rather avoid the antibiotics than cause that much damage to the flora.
Not every day like I used to.
They helped me a lot when I couldn't have normal BM's on my own (mine tended to be soft and unformed). The probiotics made them normal, especially "Probiotic Complex" by Premier R.L. ($$). But I discovered that eating a big leafy salad every day accomplished the same thing. I add at least a 1/2 tbs of Rice Bran, which is one of the best prebiotics you can use. Doesn't taste great, but that gets drowned out by the other stuff I add: bacon bits, sliced olives, lecithin granules, capers, etc, etc. Also, I know you can't do nuts, James, but for other people--I also add a tbs or so of "nut powder." IDK why people are obsessed w/ grinding nuts until they turn into "butters." Just take a handful of your favorite combination, drop 'em in a chopper and pulse until you have a fine powder. Add some to your salad, store the rest in the fridge.
Nowadays it's easy to look down on the lowly lettuce leaf, with everyone focusing on Nutrient Density and the ANDI. But even the boring-as-hell Iceberg lettuce feeds your good bacteria. (Ever wonder why something so bland and tasteless is a consistent seller at the grocery store? People are voting w/ their colon. :-D)
So, I still have some in the fridge; I'll pop a few capsules every few days. (Not sure how alive they are.) But I don't need them that much. Another thing I'm noticing lately is that when I have a BM it's a more complete evacuation, like my whole colon is emptying. So things are getting normal in that regard, like from years ago.
Remember to add lots of olive oil to your salad.
A GREAT investment: the Salad Spinner.
Sorry, they go by "Quantum Nutrition Labs" now. (Formerly "Premier Research Labs.")

The "specials" last several days b/c they are announced on the radio show but the show doesn't air live in every market, sometimes tape-delayed by a day or more.
