This is the first time I am doing a liver cleanse. This is the "recipe" I am using, and I am on day4 -- the night when you have olive oil and go straight to bed. It says the gallbaldder and liver will go into spasms. That scares me...does that hurt? I have no idea if I have stones or not. I am doing it just to clean my liver:
Your diet need not be altered during this treatment. For those with substantial illness, this may be repeated monthly for several months. In general, this treatment may be repeated annually.
An herbal laxative.
One quart of high quality apple juice.
One bottle of Ortho-Phos. Ortho-Phos can be purchased from: Harvest Moon Natural Foods, 2113-A East 151st Street, Olathe, KS 66062, (913) 782-7562. Santa Monica Drug, Reference: “POSFOOD” (310) 395-1131. Capital Drugs, Van Nuys, CA, (818) 905-8338.
One cup of high quality, cold pressed olive oil.
One cup of Coca-Cola.
The juice from one squeezed lemon.
Take an herbal laxative in the evening.
Days Two, Three & Four
Each morning drink 100 (one hundred) drops of Ortho-Phos in one quart of high quality apple juice.
If you can not drink apple juice, substitute water. Drink 135 (one hundred thirty five) drops of Ortho-Phos in one quart of water.
In the evening, eat dinner earlier than normal.
One hour before bedtime drink one cup of high quality, cold pressed olive oil combined with one cup of Coca-Cola and the juice of one squeezed lemon. (Without the Coca-Cola and lemon juice, the olive oil is very difficult to swallow.)
Go to bed immediately after drinking the mixture of olive oil, Coca-Cola, and lemon juice.
While in bed, lie on your right side for one half hour with your knees gathered to your chest. — This will cause the oil to go directly to the gallbladder and liver. When these organs receive the heavy oil mixture, they will undergo spasms and begin to expel stones and polluting material.
If the oil has not been passed or regurgitated by morning, take an herbal laxative.
Consider having a colonic purge after the treatment.
No, it won't hurt at all. Your liver won't be doing anything that it doesn't normally do, just expelling more bile than usual. Anytime you eat fat, your liver and gallbladder contract to expel bile, it will be no different except that they will expel more bile which will push out stones. And yes, most likely you do have stones, it seems that everyone does from the fact that people who never thought they would have stones do indeed get stones out. That recipe you posted doesn't seem to mention that you should eat non-fat all day so that the bile builds up, then when you drink the olive oil, the bile has built up pressure and releases more. All other flush recipes emphasize not eating fat or oil all day. Also, if you don't want to drink coke (personally, it would keep me awake, and you want to be able to sleep), you can mix the olive oil with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. I find it quite yummy!
Just because I'm curious, where did you get your flush recipe? (It seems I've read it before, but can't place where right now.)
I've never really experienced any pain at all, aside from a slight burning around my 'bottom' after releasing a lot of toxic stuff into the toilet. I have had some nausea, but that was due to my own experimentation in taking too much oil or sneaking a snack after I was supposed to stop eating.
Like Sarape noted, one key step is to eat NO fats or oils the day of the flush. The only fat or oil should be the olive oil at the end of the evening. This allows a build up of bile during the day to help 'push' the 'stones' out.
I've always basically done The Clark Flush that uses half the amount of olive oil which is mixed with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and doesn't include coke at all. (Personally, after reading the ingredients in them, I haven't had a carbonated softdrink in nearly 2 years so I completely avoid including one in a liver flush. Just seems counter-intuitive to me to add additional chemicals to an already over-taxed and 'stone' filled liver.)
Also (just to nit-pick) the oil doesn't actually go to the liver or gallbladder. (Over-simplifying here) The liver produces bile which normally 'drips' down into the gallbladder until needed, but increases under a higher fat/oil load. When fat or oil enters your stomach a 'signal' is sent that tells your gallbladder to empty the stored bile and your liver to produce more bile to restock the supply. (This is why a flush still works to cleanse the liver even if the gallbladder has been removed.) 1/2 cup of oil is usually a large enough amount to signal the gallbladder to dump all it's 'held' bile as quickly as possible. It's this build up and sudden release of bile that 'flushes' the 'stones' out.
In many flushes, another key ingredient is magnesium (whether Epsom Salts or magnesium citrate) to relax the no-striated (smooth) tissues (like the bile ducts) thus allowing them to relax enough to allow larger stones to more easily pass through when being 'pushed' by the sudden relase of built up bile. This is also the reason drinking a Tablespoon of Epsom Salts in a cup of water or apple juice helps relieve a gallbladder attack.
Epsom salts also have the additional affect of 'clearing a path' though the intestinal system so it's less likely the released 'stones' and their accompanying toxins will linger around in your system making you feel ill. (Epsom salts are commonly used to help relieve constipation - and boy, do they! lol)
However, like I said before, I'm curious and always open to learning new ways to do things, especially when it comes to health. I'm very interested to know how your flush goes!
