Homemade water kefir. Provides a number of beneficial bacteria and beneficial acids. Easy to make and you cannot get any cheaper.
or milk kefir homemade. Is water kefir as beneficial?
All the kefirs are excellent. The nice thing about the water kefir though is it can be made in to various fruity fizzy drinks. Milk kefir has the advantage of being made in to a "cheese" if you let it sit a few extra days.
You can also use coconut milk, rice milk, etc.
How do you make that?
Here is a thread discussing it:
And one on trouble shooting:
Sorry I am sure this has been posted a thousand times but I cant find it. How do you make water kefir and what if you cant tolerate anything fermented? Is it fermented?? Thanks.
I just posted links on making kefir a few posts above.
Yes it is fermented, but if properly fermented it will not contain any sugars if that is the problem you are having with fermented products.
Yes sugar would be a big problem for me but also dont fermented foods and drinks contain yeasts? I am so sensitive to mould or yeast...would kefir be a no no for me if this is the case???
Not all yeasts are a problem for Candida. For example Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer's yeast) does not feed Candida. In addition, the acids from kefir suppress Candida growth.
