I have had BV ever since I got my period in 6th grade. I am now a junior in college....and still pissed at the world for this. lol
The doctor is useless in my opinion. No antibiotic she has given me has cured me for longer than about 2 days after the prescription has run out. I have read and read and read about this remedy and that remedy and trying different things. I have also done extensive research on BV. I have decided that I want to try the yogurt method of cure.
I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me though because I couldnt stop laughing at my last attempt because it was such a failure. I read that you can soak your tampon in plain yogurt and then insert it and leave it over night. OK. No big deal. Easy to do right? Wrong. ha I soaked the tampon in the yogurt but then I couldnt get it in without the applicator and then when I tried to put the yogurt soaked tampon back into the appilcator...OMG...epic fail. ha
1. Exactly which yogurt should I use. I know it needs to be plain and with L. Bacteria or something like that. And exactly where can I buy it. The neareset Whole Foods is 2 states away so some place like Walmart would be nice.
3. Can someone please describe a very detailed step by step of how to use the yogurt....without becoming XXX graphic. I mean, it was a hopeless attempt last time. =]
4. How much yogurt do I use per treatment? How often do I do a treatment? How long should I treat?
5. I also read about pills some women were taking/inserting while doing the yogurt treatment. Do you have any information on that?
6. Any other information about the yogurt treatment would be greatly appreciated.
7. And lastly, this seems like it would have absolutely nothing to do with BV but is a pad or a tampon better for your period if you have BV? I HIGHLY doubt that it matters but does anyone have better/less symptoms if they use one or the other?
I guess that is all for now. I will be back! And thanks for helping. Its been about 10 years....time for a solution.
Yes you are right, doctors are useless when it comes to BV, and all the information out there about what to douche with or what it insert is also useless. If you really want to cure BV, you have to be willing to change your diet. That's right BV is a nutritional problem, not a vaginal problem, that is just where it manifests itself. If you don't believe me try this. On an empty stomach, drink a glass of water with half a teaspoon of baking soda stirred into it. The empty stomach part is very important. If there is food in your stomach when you do this it will interfere with your digestion and nutrient absorption which is very bad. So one hour before or 4 hours after you eat something. Next time you start to smell the odor on you toilet paper after wiping, try the baking soda treatment twice a day, morning and night for 3 days. The smell will be gone. Because baking soda is a powerful PH lowerer. I used baking soda twice a day for 30 days and have not had a recurrence of BV since. But the underlying problem is your diet. The american diet is grain based which is very acidic. If you go online and do some research on the low acid diet, this will help you discover which foods to eat and which to avoid. But basically vegetables lower your PH. So you need to eat more vegetables than any other food group with every meal, even breakfast. What I eat is a large salad full of all the vegetables I can find seasonally. and with that I eat a small serving of organic meat. I avoid all grains and sugars, they will activate BV very quickly, and that includes fruit, it is mostly sugar, and remember corn is a grain, not a vegetable, and potatoes are a starch, not a vegetable. basically any vegetable that grows above the ground is good, if it grows below ground it is a starch and therefore a sugar. If I feel like a glass of wine now and then I just chase it with baking soda water because alcohol will set off my BV in one night. with the tools of vegetables and baking soda, you should never have to worry about BV again and never have to douche or insert or use gels or creams or any drugs. Good luck and good health to you.
Off WebMD- Normally, about 95% of vaginal flora are lactobacillus bacteria. (These types are unique to humans, different from the lactobacillus in yogurt.) These lactobacilli help keep the vaginal pH level low and prevent overgrowth of other types of organisms... The normal vaginal pH is 3.8 to 4.5. Bacterial vaginosis usually causes the vaginal pH to rise above 4.5.
Now for a refresher in 6th grade chemistry (from Wiki):
Solutions with a pH less than 7 are said to be acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic or alkaline.
The pH scale goes from 0 to 14. Normally, the vagina is more ACIDIC than it is when BV is present. The actual number value is higher, but the further from 7 (neutral), the more acidic. Hence the H202 (an acidic compound) douche theory.
Now let's talk about your sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) claims. (Wiki): Sodium bicarbonate can be added as a simple solution for raising the pH balance of water (increasing total alkalinity) where high levels of chlorine (2–5 ppm) are present as in swimming pools and aquariums.
Yes, increasing alkalinity. Raising the pH number, making things less acidic. It is a pH raiser. It lowers acidity. Which is just the correct way of saying what it seems you mean. When you say we need to lower the pH of the vagina to combat this problem, you're exactly right. Which means we need to INCREASE the acidity.
SO, maybe an acidic diet contributes to BV in some way. Maybe an acidic diet somehow makes one's vagina more alkaline. I believe this did work for you. But it did not work the way you said it did. The doctors may have no clue, but that doesn't mean the solution is found in ignorance of basic science. That's how people end up taking things like Miracle-Mineral-Supplement (also suggested in this forum, universally accepted to be a chemical normally used as industrial bleaching agent that has caused at least one death according to it's Materials Safety Data Sheet)
