I started oil pulling with organic cold-pressed sunflower, for a month. It seems to be helping my skin but my retainer wire, which was glued to my bottom front teeth came loose and is now off completely.
I beleive this to be caused by the swishing.
I will get a new wire put in but I still want to OP
Is it acceptable to simply hold the the liquid in my mouth? I naturally produce a lot of saliva. I guess if I try this and the oil still turns white at the end, I can assume it's still effective?
Also, would some oils be better than others? I was thinking the lighter/thinner the oil, the less likely it will disturb the retainer wires I have glued on.
I have never heard of this. How can oil melt cement? You eat a lot of things, so I simply can't see the act of swishing oil would cause this. Not that I don't believe you, I just have never heard of this before.
i can see this happening. the teeth are porous. oil pulling exposes the teeth to a lot more oil than usual. the oils is there to help remove toxins. i cant believe the glue dentists use is any different.
what about invisaline? they are spendy, though. you might just have to fore go the oil pulling to pull your teeth in place. then go for it.
on the contrary, maybe with cleaner teeth, the glue will stick more securely to the teeth instead of substances the oil can easily dissolve. the oil IS dissolving crud from teeth or they wouldnt change color.
so, 2 possibile outcomes, but my money is on the former.
The old retainers all were removable. Orthodontists have starting moving towards using lower lingual arch bars, which are fixed to the tongue side of the lower canines and the bar supports the incisors. The change is because the most likely teeth to revert are the lower anteriors and patient compliance with retainers is much better when they are not removable.
It's not likely that OP alone would have caused a well attached retainer to come loose.
My sister had a retainer fall out while taking a bite of pizza...could just be the quality of your orthodontist.
Mine has not come out after 7 or 8 years. I had a different ortho.
When I got my braces taken off, I had a wire put behind my two front teeth so that they wouldn't spread apart and leave me with a gap.
Basic point being that, I don't think that this is purely a result of oil pulling. It could have been about to happen anyway.
I don't think it will be very effective to just hold the oil in your mouth.
Oil pulling is good for tightening loose teeth. So if your retainer is being used to hold your teeth in place, then you won't need it if you are oil pulling HOWEVER, if you are trying to move your teeth into a different position, then it's possible that oil pulling would be counterproductive to that.
