I'm on day 2 of a water fast and decided to start the day oil pulling (which I'm doing now). It seemed to me that it didn't break the fast since the oil wasn't entering the digestive system even if it was being absorbed by the body.
The reasons I thought I'd try is:
1) My mouth tasted pretty rank when I woke up;
2) I woke up with a minor but annoying headache (that I thought might go away with OP and so far has);
3) OP is an easy way of removing toxins from the body which is important with a water fast; and
4) Since OP is so powerful but also obscure, it may not have even considered before by the fasting crowd. Adding some omega 3 to the body while fasting might somehow ease the experience.
So I thought I'd experiment on myself even though it's a short 3 day fast and apart from freshening my mouth and maybe getting rid of fasting headaches I doubt much else would be noticeable.
I figured if anyone's tried this they'd be around here.. Anybody?
Wow - you two make me feel like a major whimp. I pitched in the towel after my 3rd full day. It was one of those rare days where everything went perfectly and completely wrong.
After the pull later in the day I was really beat up and out of it. Although I've always had a hard time with day 3 of a fast. Probably a good thing though - being fully alert on a day like today may have made me believer in Hell.
I was wondering if the OP was sending a food trigger that was making the hunger part worse. But if you've gone 16 days doing it - I guess not. I'm encouraged though - I'll try it all the way through on my next fast. It felt fantastic while I was doing it and would have liked to know how it felt doing one in the afternoon too - but i was a working day..
Ha! I doubt I could make anyone else feel like a whimp. This is all new to me and im trying my best.
So I tried it today for the first time. I used organic cold pressed coconut oil. At first I wanted to gag but as soon as it liquified I was fine. Mouth was tired at the end, no surprise. I didnt really see any amazing first results but im not deterred. Im open to new things. I also started dry skin brushing too. Im just trying to get the most detoxing possible these last few days of my Master-Cleanse : )
p.s.... If anything this strenthens my belief that God is loving and has provided everything we need on earth for our health and well-being. Its just up to us to take advantage of it!
For me the weekends are the toughest, thats when I want to have fun with my family and eat. Now, I am a SAHM but still,eating during the week just doesnt have as much of an appeal. Thats why when my 10 day Master-Cleanse was suppose to end this past monday, I figured "why? its the week, I mine as well continue!" and im really looking forward to eating this weekend. Also it totally gets easier after day 4. Your just on cruise control after that. GL!
For me it's just tough to make it during the working week. For the first day or two I actually feel clearer, less emotional and it actually is easier to make decisions and get things done.
But day 3? I should have limited myself to playing Madden 09 on a sofa somewhere, but instead had one of those uniquely challenging and horrendous days where your biggest mistake was getting out of bed in the morning. The day would make a really comical blog sometime.
I actually enjoy small fasts on the weekend because it usually puts me in an elevated spiritual mood that makes me enjoy soul satisfying things like long hikes, a day at Barnes and Noble reading everything I can get my hands on, etc.
Now that my kids are teenagers, my presence isn't required on the weekends like it used to be.. (;
Ah, I don't feel like such a wimp then - since I could have survived the 3rd day if I didn't have to be working.
Why do I do it? Mostly for health reasons like cleansing, disease prevention etc, giving the body a break from its normal digestive duties, etc. I never believed that fasting helped lose weight long term - and unfortunately it never does in my case.
But probably the biggest allure is the way it makes me think and feel. it gives me a different outlook, makes me feel clearer, less emotional and often more spiritual. I tend to seek out soul satisfying activities like hikes or bike rides in nature, classical music concerts, museams, etc.
Just another of the many phases I seem to go through - but in this case it seems to be a good thing. Why do/did you fast?
I did a 5-day kidney cleanse, drinking only organic apple juice and water. I kept on oil pulling all five days, even doing it twice a day. It was the only thing that kept the nasty taste in my mouth from being even nastier. I agree with you that there may be more toxins circulating, and OP can only help with this.
(sigh) know how you feel. I have been off the bandwagon for 9 months as well! Mine was due to a move from AZ to PA and trying to sell my house in the middle of a housing crisis and my autistic son being off and on sick. I think I am begining to recover my sanity!
I'm now on Day 4 of an open-ended water + juice fast (till my body resumes its proper size and shape). I've done an OP every morning with coconut oil, as I usually do, but was wondering whether this was a mistake during a fast. It just felt right to keep doing it, so I have been. I hope it's not slowing down the release of the excess poundage...
Actually, an interesting thing has happened this fast: I've been normally eating two meals a day and drinking lots of water in between. During a fast I usually drink juice whenever I've felt hungry/thirsty/woozy. Yesterday I had three lots of juice, and I felt as though I'd over-eaten / been greedy. Today I'll be trying mainly water with two juice "meals".
