I just joined and really need some help. My doctor told me I am in Adrenal Failure. He had me try 3 of his products. One had Adrenal Bovine Extract, one had PS (Sirene) and one had B6, Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Licorice Root, Skullcap and other vitamins. I really suffered with each one and had negative reactions. So, I decided to just try each ingredient separatly. The licorice root makes me mad. But the Ashwagandha was okay. Sometimes I was irritable and angry but it wasn't as bad as the others. It is not enough to support me taking any thyroid meds though. I need help knowing what to do. I bought drops and tried 30 upon rising. It calmed me but I would crash if I tried even 1/8th of Armour. So, if you guys could tell me what works for you and help me with a starting plan that would be great. Today I tried 5-htp & GABA and I am having a horrible reaction! Shaking, red, hot...never again. But tomorrow morning I would like to start with the Ashwagandha again. Any supplements with it? I was thinking Pantothenic Acid or Pantethine. My main problem is anxiety. I need to relax and I need sleep beyond 4 am.
Another good site that was just recommended to me from someone who is recovering from AF is http://www.womentowomen.com
Read up on AF there too.
I take the ashwanganda and no ill effects. I'm like you, have to be careful, but so far all of Dr. Wilson's products for AF have not effected me. I am started the vit B's tomorrow, will see how I do. I don't have any problems with the licorish.
There is a product you can buy if you have trouble with licorish. I think it's in his book. Also my friend gave me this tonight too for a licorish that doesn't effect your heart: Natures Plus' Herbal Active Licorish DGL. Do a search here and see ifyou can find some answers for your questions.
I have found a dr that specializes in AF and female hormones, and she is across country, but I will be on that side soon and will drive 3 hours to see her.I need to get well big time, as you do as well.
I hope you find the answers and most importantly get feeling better soon. Better luck with supplements to you!
Thanks for the response Scoobie. I just got off of hc. I never did well on it and then my body rejected it. My new doctor told me that Ashwagandha can help heal the adrenals but aparently it takes awhile. They said I am trying to hurry it up too fast and have to take my time because my adrenals are so bad that I am hyper sensitive now. But like you I want to get better faster. This is not the way to live, huh? My doctor had me try a product with the adrenal extact in it. I felt very mad and violent and I'm a very calm person. He said some woman have trouble with it. So he has me trying to build up to the dosage on another supplement that was too much for me. The ingredients are ashwagandha, eleuthero, licorice root, b vitamins and some other things. So, I have to start with drops of ashwagandha and the b vitamins. I am only doing 10 drops 2 times a day and am telling my body to adjust to it. It's been difficult. I read here that some are taking 500 mg of Ashwagandha twice a day for AF. I wonder if it works. If it's enough? What are you taking, how much, is it helping, and are you taking any thyroid support?
Hang in there a little longer before trying hc (unless you really need it)
Thanks! Hope you're doing okay.
HI again Gayle. Gosh, I am sorry you are having such a hard time with the supplements, etc. I am very sensitive too. It gets frustrating doesn't it. I start slowly too.
Here is what I am on:
No trouble with the Ashwangandha. I take 1500mg a day. 3 seperate doses of 500mg.
I started on Dr. Wilson's severe AF protocol. I had to stop the vit c, it give me horrible gas problems, very foul. I thought it would go away, but it just got worse, and it also seems to constipate me some. I stopped it today and will just take crystal vit c. I hope it works just as well.
I tried to start his vit b's but almost immediately my mouth corners got raw, so I am going to stop it, and try to go at it slower and see how it does. It makes my mouth taste strange too.
I take licorish root, and adrenal rebuilder, DHEA 20mg, red yeast rice (cholestrol), calcium, mag, coq10. There may be more, but I c na't think straight as my bird is going on not stop (major stressor for me!)
I don't seem to have problems only iwth those 2 products of wilson's, vit c and b.
I am very torn on the HC. I am seeing a dr next week who doesn't not believe in using it, also my nathropath doesn't not feel it's good for you. I am thinking they think the adrenals will heal when we get to the bottom of what is causing them to fail. I did a very long benzodiazipene taper and it was the sickest and most stressed out thing I have even gone through.... so many I will heal, maybe that's what caused it. But i am going to be tested for all kinds of stuff, metals, parasites, lymes, etc. So we shall see.
Gayle, tell me what it did to you, or how it made you feel please. Are you off of it now? How long did you take it? How long to get off? I have to make a decision. My husband wants me to take it, but he jsut wants me to get better. He has watched me suffer for years now, first the thyroid crash, then benzo addiction, then the horrible taper, and NOW THIS!!!
I wonder if the vit b is making your edgy. I am so very sensitive, and I just had no issue with the Ashwanganda. I was scared to death to take it, but no probs. The vit b can cause anxiety, known for that. My anxiety is rarer low considering. My bird can flair me up in a new york minute though. I'm trying to remain calm as I can.
Please stay in touch. You can pm or email me if you want, or I will check back here to see how you are doing. I hope you are feel better soon Gayle.
Hi Gayle. Yes, I take 1500 mg of Ashg. The only thing that I see that is better for me, is I gave up my one coffee in the morning and that helps me with the nausea. I would get so sick after I drank it. Also, focusing on more protein (have to drink protein shakes) and LESS sugar. I was craving Sugar and chocolate and eating it once a day, but now I am having it once a week. I have only been on the program (vits/herbs, adrenal support, etc. ) about 2-3 weeks maybe, so don't expect to see great improvement. Although, I have been on the Ashg about 4 weeks . I think I have a pretty big mess to clean up, so will be a somewhat slow process.
I did send you an email through the system, hope to hear back from you with the info you have. My husband and I are going to talk to a dr tomorrow about HC. I don't feel good about it. I want to test my adrenals again first to see if I have some improvement. I know I have a long way to go. I am very very fatigued, and so very sensitive to the heat. I am learning to pace myself, eat better and REST. I used to push myself very hard, thought I was being lazy. I try to walk on my thread mill 3-4 times a week, but every time I do, I hurt my feet. My feet are very screwed up for some reason.
how much GABA are you taking? it's good stuff for stress. you only get the flushing if you take too much at once. it is a horrible feeling. i never take more than 1/4 tsp of the powder at a time to avoid the reaction you described. even small doses are effective. why don't you try taking 1/8-1/4 tsp at intervals.
Some people are allergic to GABA. There are other GABAergics you can try. Theanine. Kava Kava. Valerian. Passion Flower. GHB. Reccomended in that order. Make sure your Kava Kava is from roots only. There were problems a while back with attempts to concentrate Kavalactones from the toxic aerial parts of the plant.
I’m in the same boat in regards to adrenal failure, and before being diagnosed was having have liver and thyroid problems as a result. Since my diagnosis and taking my recommended supplement, I’ve been making a steady recovery.
The adrenal gland support supplements I’ve been on are:
Future Formulations Adrenal Rebuilder
Future Formulations Super Adrenal Stress Formula
Future Formulations Herbal Adrenal Support Formula
(Future Formulations will be changing its namebrand to “Doctor Wilson's Original Formulations”, and they may be purchased online at: http://www.nourishingfoods.com/Future-Formulations.html
In addition to many other supplements, the more important ones I’m taking are:
Perque Potent C Guard Powder
Peter Gillham Natural Magnesium Calm
Peter Gillham Natural Magnesium Calm has helped my energy level immensely! No matter what, make sure you take some sort of vitamin C supplement for inflammation.
Be sure your doctor had you to take a saliva test to track your lows on cortisol production. This will help determine when to take your supplements. Also if you can, take at least a 20 minute nap/meditation every afternoon. I was resistant at first, but it really does “reset” your adrenal glands and will help get you through the rest of the day without further stressing your body.
