Some people take herbal teas while 'fasting'. It is interferring in the fast though. All herbs have some 'medicinal' property which inflicts itself on our body and takes energy from what the body should be doing while fasting. Even simple mint tea can have a very forcefully cleansing effect on the intestines making it an awesome gastro treatment. I would consider that kind of thing dangerous while fasting with empty intestines however. Whatever the herb's effect it will interfere in some way. The most efficient way of fasting and the safest is to use only water and only as much as you need for thirst.
Bella apparently after a while on juice fasting your body does begin producing ketones. It will take longer as you suggest, I don't know how long with juice fasting but with a water fast depending on the last meal taken it will take between 18-36 hours on average. It will then take as long again before full ketosis sets in when the body will supply full nutrition for itself from it's reserves. This will never happen on a juice fast because the body is still being supplied from outside and doesn't need to. This is one of the reasons why the water fast is far superior to the juice fast. The other is that the digestion system completely shuts down and is fully cleansed and repaired naturally from within. There is also evidence to suggest that some digestive organs metabolise elements for our nutrition while fasting that it can otherwise not produce on it's own. That is also why fasting is or should be a normal part of life even once 'cleaned out', because it means there are less 'essential' vitamins, minerals and proteins that our body actually needs to ingest from outside. By keeping our digestive systems busy and filled up with three meals a day which we never would have had before being 'civilised' the body is unable to do a lot of the maintenance that should be a part of it's regular functioning.
If what i've been reading is true, people still get very good cleansing and healing on juice. Doing this first could make doing the waterfast alot easier for some.
I've been trying out the fast5, even after what i said i thought about it in the past. lol. Trying to ease myself into doing a waterfast again next week. In an earlier post you said to steer clear of it. Especially because they eat what they like during the five hours.
Well initially people might over eat in the 'window' but it does seem to train people to eat better in the window. We have all noticed if we eat sweet stuff we feel more hungry next day, so it is not as bad as i once thought, as people do start to eat healthier otherwise they suffer next day.
Also 19 hours is IF daily, and people are still getting some healing affects from doing this, not just weight loss. You are allowed herbal teas and tea and coffee black but 19 hours isn't long enough to shut down digestion. Maybe not ideal but still seems to be working to some degree.
I agree that the water or dry fasting is the ultimate fast, but it amazes me when people get results just by going longer without food daily. They feel healthier and leaner, even if they are not eating raw etc. They also go into a ketosis, maybe not full ketosis, but it builds up after time.
The point i'm trying to make is, any period of not eating seems to have a desirable affect on the body, even when not eating raw or even when some have herbal or caffiene drinks, but obviously not good for longer fasts.
Some people just find it to hard to waterfast straight off, so i still think these other ways of eating/juicing can still be of great benefit. And alot do go on to do the waterfast.
What you are talking about bling I believe is certainly beneficial. juicing or even the fast5 thingy. Giving your digestion system a break should be what we do normally, and if we did our bodies would probably be able to cope a lot better with the way many are treated in our modern world... If we were healthy to begin with. I think much can be done with juicing or IF but for the intial cleanout to be complete a complete water fast would need to be done. It is the only way to be sure. And then after that the correct high raw diet with IF followed as part of the healthy lifestyle.
