Dr. Schulze recommends using 90,000+ (medicinal rating) Heat Units Cayenne Pepper, but if you used 50,000 Heat Units Cayenne Pepper, and it WORKED, then use it! As you found-out, the 100,000 Heat Units Cayenne Pepper was BETTER though to use. When you're in NEED, you could use whatever you can obtain, unless it's Paprika Pepper, which is 0 Heat Units!
I'd like to tell you that I use homegrown Cayenne Pepper in my Tincture, but I don't. This year though, I'm going to organically grow my own different varieties of Cayenne Peppers. And so right now, since I PREFER Tinctures over powders, I'm using either Herb Pharm or American Botanical Pharmacy (Schulze's) Cayenne Pepper Tincture.
If you're going to use Cayenne Pepper Powder, when you're making an Herbal Tincture, you would generally use, depending on the potency of the Cayenne Pepper, 1/3-1/2 of the amount of powdered herb (parts-volume), as you would use FRESH herb, adding enough 50% Grain Alcohol (100 Proof Vodka) to just COVER the Cayenne Pepper powder.
