I have been doing Oil pulling for I think about 1 year. I just found out I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I am just wondering if all this oil pulling has affected my thyroid. Anyone knows? I have antibodies. I know Oil Pulling removes different infections from the body and I am just wondering if this has all congregated near the mouth and neck and that these infections may have affected my thyroid.Just wondering.
I had been using safflower, but ran out and started using CO. After two days, twice a day, the front of my neck got really itchy and I felt an enlarged bump there. My teeth got really sensitive too. I don't know if that is thyroid or not, but I know alot of thyroid patients take CO. Don't know if the OP with CO affects the thyroid, I think in my case it could be an allergy or detox. I did have a nodule a few years ago, they thought I had Hashi's but the antibodies were negative. It could mean healing too. But, the thyroid scares me enough not to mess around. I was once made hyperthyroid by an MD and had to go to the ER and was forced to take a Valium there. It was awful and I don't want to go there again. I am curious if anyone knows, alot of people seem to like CO. Hope someone can answer.
I changed to sesame and it is better. I like the taste of the sesame oil, so I think I will stick with that. OP is more powerful than I would expect.
I don't diminish the effectiveness of OP. And I don't believe anymore that OP "pulls" anything out of you except the destruction of harmful bacteria in your mouth. Bacteria that would eventually find their way into your system.
You efficiently absorb all the nutrients of the oil.
However, please see some of my posts below about Flax Oil. Flax has too much Omega 3, and too much of Omega 3 has been shown to diminish thyroid function. That is why it's so important to have a balanced Omega 3-6-9 in your diet. I think I read that it's flax seed that is tough on the system, but I don't remember reading about the oil.
From Udo Erasumus:
According to Dr. Erasmus, essential fatty acids are critical to thyroid function because, first, they are required for the integrity of the structure for every membrane of every cell. Second, they increase energy levels in the cell. And third, there is some evidence that essential fatty acids, especially Omega 3s, improve the efficiency of the hormones on the receptor sites.
To understand the importance of the receptor issue, think about the situation of diabetes. Pre-diabetes, the condition that is considered a marker for future diabetes, is also known as insulin resistance. Insulin is in the body, but it isn't being utilized because saturated fats block insulin receptor function, and ultimately receptors become desensitized -- and ultimately immune to and unable to receive -- insulin. Essential fatty acids are required for receptor function and can make diabetics more insulin sensitive. So diabetics taking essential fatty acids may need less receptors, and ultimately, less insulin.
Dr. Erasmus believes that this same mechanism takes place with other hormonal functions, such as the androgens, pineal glands, adrenal glands -- and specifically, the thyroid.
There are practitioners who believe that thyroid hormone resistance is not a rare occurrence, and is actually a more common sign of impending thyroid disease, much like insulin resistance is a precursor to diabetes. This issue of receptors is critical, because according to Dr. Erasmus, "With proper essential fatty acid nutrition, what will sometime happen is that you get fewer receptors but they work better." This would mean that proper levels of essential fatty acids might make the thyroid hormone receptors work better, so that thyroid hormone actually accomplishes its mission.
And here is something from our buddy Mercola on coconut oil (and thyroid):
Actually, I would take a break from Liver Flushes. While a wonderful cleanse, I think there is a certain point you need to give it a rest. It's a huge event for your liver, and I should think that your liver is in good shape after that many flushes. I know they say to wait until no stones appear, but for some that never happens. After my 15 flushes I now only do them once a quarter or even half a year.
I'm afraid I can't answer your question about the flushes in particular, but I can about OP. Do you OP? It's clear that the lack of EFA's play havoc with our thyroid, which is connected to our hormonal system, which is connected to our adrenals, which is connected to the...on and on it goes. Everything works in concert, and your thyroid causing havoc with your infertility is probably spot on. I sounds like you are cleansing and doing the right thing though.
Oil. Absolutely make it a part of your diet. Buy the best you can, swish with it and eat it too. Only use coconut oil to cook with.
Knowing what I know now, if I was suffering from thyroid and infertility, I would seriously consult with the best (with references) accupunturist I could find.
Here's a little story. I knew this woman, Tina. All the doctors told her she could not have children, after a myriad of tests and all the other horrible things women go through in order to have children. She did it all, the injections...you name it. Then she gave up. I met her about 3 years after she and her husband had resigned themselves to being childless.
She went to an accupunturist for a back problem. While there he asked her if she was having any other issues, and she mentioned infertility. He told her he'd take care of that in 3 visits, and she was like...whatever...
Well, long story short, she was pregnant within 2 months. It was by far the worse pregnancy I've ever seen a woman go through. We found her on three occassions passed out in the hallways at work. She ended this horrible thing with a full term healthy boy. She stopped going to the accupunturist because one was enough, and she was afraid of becoming pregnant again. Well sure enough, 8 months later she was pregnant with #2. Much better pregnancy, but still hell. What happened? Of course, then came #3 they found out the week after her husband had the vasectomy. Almost a perfect pregnancy, no problems. The accupuncturist told her that she had a very basic stagnation and was easy to fix.
Funny that you mention it, but Tina was on some thryoid drugs when I first met her....hmmmm.
Anyway, sorry to be butting in when I wasn't even asked, and for sure I meant no harm. Perhaps you've already tried that route, and if so, I'm sorry for the blathering away about this. I always found the whole story of Tina fascinating. And she is the only one I've ever know to have this happen like it did.....
I digress....please start using some healthy oils...
I take a lot of fish oil, sometimes up to 8-9 per day. If I take less, I will have clots so in order to reduce clots I take fish oil. I am only concerned about coconut oil because it is saturated fats and I know that can cause clots. Maybe I will try with 1 tsp. How much coconut oil is enough, do you think?
I have been doing acu for 1.5 years still no result yet. I am on my third acpuncturist. Can you recommend any good acupuncturist?
Well this woman used a guy in Oakland CA....but I have no way of contacting her now. It's been years since I worked with her and everyone got laid off from there......
I've been going to a Japanese accupuncturist lately and I think that's wonderful. Have you tried Japanese? Of course I'm not trying to get pregnant. At 51 I'd have to kill my accupuncturist if that happened. LOL. She has helped me with my female issues (menopause) though.
Wow, you have clots? How is that? What natural things have you tried to keep clots from happening?
Recently I was drinking Zeta Water, which is simply a pharmaceutical grade of Potassium Citrate which I got from here:
Alert - HEADS UP. If you have MERCURY FILLINGS in your Mouth, you should not be Oil Pulling, unless you take a Chelation Supplement. Chelation will help eliminate the excess Heavy Metals in your Body. Oil Pulling can have Bad Health Benefits With some individuals. Oil Pulling can pull additional Mercury from your Dental fillings, and return it back into your Body. I've been oil pulling for 18 Months, and I now have Higher traces of Mercury in my Body. Mercury is processed by the Thyroid. Then the Mercury is Sent to the liver, then to the Kidneys. I take my Blood Pressure Daily. I noticed that every time I ate Fish my Blood pressure would shoot up to unhealthy readings. If you continue to Oil Pull with Dental Mercury, make sure you are monitoring your Blood Pressure and limit your Seafood Intake. Excess Mercury is released in the body every time you eat, swallow and Swish with Oil.
