In this study, the researchers chemically induced liver cancer in rats and then examined the severity of the process of cancer development. When vitamin C or Aloe vera supplements were given to the cancer-induced rats, these previously increased biochemical indicators of cancer were suppressed. A study completed by Stuart et al.15 examined whether acemannan, prepared from aloe vera, could stimulate the immune system of mice. The immune response was measured in terms of percent phagocytosis and killing of Candida. The researchers found that there was a 45% increase in phagocytosis in the cells treated with acemannan and Candida compared to a 25% increase in the controls. And, the rates of Candida killing were 38% in macrophages exposed to acemannan for 10 minutes compared to 0-5% in untreated cells. When macrophages were exposed to acemannan for 60 minutes, 98% of the yeast were killed compared to 0-5% in the controls. These results suggest that acemannan, from Aloe vera, may have anti-fungal and immunostimulant properties.

Psoriasis:Aloe Vera Healed 25/30 5 y  

PSORIASIS Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease marked by scaly and inflammatory characteristics. Syed et al17. performed a double-blind study to evaluate the clinical efficacy and tolerability of topical Aloe vera extract (0.5%) skin cream. Sixty patients topically applied this medication 3 times daily, 5 consecutive days a week for a maximum of 4 weeks. Patients were examined on a weekly basis. The study was performed over 16 weeks with 12 months of follow-up on a monthly basis. The treatment was well tolerated by all the patients, with no adverse drug-related symptoms and no dropouts. By the end of the study, the Aloe vera extract cream had cured "25 out of 30 patients (83.3%) compared to the placebo cure rate of 2 out of 30 patients (6.6%)." Additionally, there was an 82.8% clearing of the psoriatic plaques in the Aloe vera treatment group compared to 7.7% in the placebo users.
