Does anyone have information about the safety of oil pulling while breastfeeding? Breastmilk is made from blood. As much as I want to be healthy, I don't really want to dump my detoxing toxins into my baby. Molly, I saw you said it's safe for pregnancy; breastfeeding actually gives babies what mom eats more directly, any input? Vance? Thanks so much
Oil is just food. It won't hurt at all. Actually the EFA's you could be absorbing will be excellent, as well as removing bacteria from your oral cavity that can be swallowed or absorbed into your system.
I actually think that OP is an excellent breast feeding tool. Wish I'd know about it when I was breast feeding my son.
Congrats on the baby. Mine is 17 and I miss that time so much.
Breastmilk is not made from blood. Nutrients and other substances do diffuse from the blood into the milk across permeable membranes, but blood does not normally enter into the milk itself. Lactogenesis is a very complex biological process.
Thanks a lot for your responses. I stopped using sesame right away (and suddenly didn't feel so sore). I had some Udo's Blend left so I used that up, and it was great. My baby started sleeping through the night. I'd do anything for that! (Besides leave her to cry in another room.) When the Udo's ran out, I switched to rice bran oil (not organic), and now I'm just doing it on faith, because I don't notice anything, plus my daughter's up all night again. So I think I'll switch back to Udo's next trip to the store for another experiment.
Thank you again for getting back to me and for the support.
And.. my baby's 19 months; my other daughter's 15. Interesting perspective!
